Just In case you're still a fan of the olympics...

A perfect summation of the games.

Here's something to keep in mind- The pinheads at the IOC recently backed down as the Chinese Gymnastics Team told them that they're earlier documentation of their girls ages didn't count and the most recent were the most accurate...But that's not even close to the biggest example of how the IOC stinks.

Much like the UN, the IOC makes big statements and proclamations and does nothing to follow up when those rules, regulations and warnings are broken. Even more bothersome is the fact that China, it's opening and the games on a larger scale are being praised by NBC, the world media and the IOC as a great success. This is a travesty.

I'm saddened and angered in hindsight by the fact that I actually watched these olympics on TV. The painful fact is that moneys from McDonalds, Nike and others were poured into the heartless, human-crushing machine called the PRC because of hypocrites like me. While sport is entertaining and I love to see America win, there are better ways to support her than watching this olympiad. Damnit.

China, you can suck it.
IOC, you can too- you empowered Hu and the PRC's march toward ZERO progress in the realm of human rights and freedom was made during the past two weeks/two years. But honestly, what level-headed person would believe that negotiating and bargaining with a communist regime would end any other way?

Can you really call this a sport?

The olympics are goofy. How do I know? This is how:

Progressive Europeans

The perception that Europe is socially ahead of the United States has always befuddled me- If you have worked for a European company, with Europeans, you know what I know- That Europe has its share of backwards buffoons just as America is. But, one thing I think America is waaaay ahead on is issues pertaining to race. It could be because most Americans have been exposed to a lot of people of different races and we all simply don't look alike. Look at the US Olympic team for proof- Asian, African, Slavic, Latino descendants are common on this roster.

No matter where you're from in America, you're eventually going to be in the position where someone of another race is your equal...at school or work. Regardless, we still have a long way to go in the simple fact that race is still an issue at all. Heck, I have a very good friend who told me he is going to vote for Obama simply because he is black (isn't that racism?). If that's all it took to get the left on board, J.C. Watts or Alan Keyes should be the next President...and they're actually qualified. No matter.

The same continent that brought you death threats and a constant reminder of how ugly "the beautiful game" can be, now comes the hilarity of facial gestures from the Spaniard basketball team while in China. Part of what Gasol says is right- people take things too seriously...But the fact that he and his teammates saw nothing wrong with what they were doing is ignorant...and can you imagine an entire roster of Americans doing something similar? Me neither.
It's kind of like me saying that all Euros don't shower...See, that stereotype simply is not the rule...with the exception for a few unkempt individuals that ruin it for the rest of them, much of Europe practices very good hygiene.

Hey Mark Spitz, Stop Acting Like a Girl

In case you haven't heard it, Mark Spitz, the former super-human swimmer is now focusing on letting the world know that he's an arrogant, whiny prima donna. He's doing a damned good job at it too.

My college roommate, a regular BS reader, told me about the story, so I had to read it for myself. Turns out, Chris' account of what Spitz had to say is about right. Usually those in America who think they're entitled to something are young...Turns out, the culture of entitlement has rubbed off on this not-so-young former olympian.

Maybe it's because I really don't like the olympics and don't care enough to research it, but I can't think of any precedent in which the former record-holder gave the new one his medal(s). I don't remember seeing Komenich placing the medals around M.L. Retton or Flo Jo shooting HGH into Marion Jones, I mean giving Jones her medals. Regardless, Spitz needs to shut his stache.
