Joe Is Mad At Us

Well, maybe not at us, exactly, but Joe is pissed off about bloggers, it appears. You may have seen this on Deadspin today, but Joe has closed practice -- permanently -- because he's tired of...bloggers.

I don't quite understand why he's upset. I mean, is it our fault (or any other blog's fault) that Selwyn Lymon was stabbed in the upper chest while he was at a nightclub? Hey, coach, maybe you should focus on keeping your 20-year-old players out of nightclubs and away from motor vehicles when they've been drinking. Maybe you should close some of their access to the party hotbed that is West Lafayette, Indiana. Just a thought. I'm fairly certain it's not the fact that a few members of the press and the interested public (largely, you know, fans, in all liklihood) being in Mollenkopf that is causing the problems on your team.

"And you better get used to it, because we're closed the rest of the spring. And we'll also be closed all fall. I'm tired of blogging and guys talking about our practices, and postings, and all that bullsh-t. All's it is is more problems than it is value."

The quote is kind of funny because it sounds like Coach Tiller himself is tired of blogging. And, hell, I'd like to read that blog:

"We lost again today. I don't understand why Brock can't make the players pretend we're at home. I'm hungry. I'm sleepy. I think I'll take a nap. After my sandwich, of course. -- Joe T"

But seriously, Coach, none of these here Websites were ever intended to provide any so-called "value" to your football squad. No, that's actually your job, believe it or not. We exist to entertain readers who aren't close to the team or the players and who might want to read about sports from the slanted angle we provide. Again, I fail to see how sites such as ours could possibly be detrimental to the team. Are there secrets going on during practice that you don't want getting out there? Like a secret play to be used against Notre Dame in September? I sure hope so, because your attitude is kind of crappy and I'd like to hope that's going to lead to a more focused team. However, ten seasons of evidence to the contrary don't bode well.

Years ago Tiller said everyone who blogged and spent too much time on the web were "knuckleheads" later, he told all of them to "get a life" because they clearly were just wasting time. He's also said that he doesn't pay attention to any of the stuff on the web. It could be that he's upset that so many people are pissed with the fact that the product is squarely mediocre, and the individuals who make up the team have become lawless and tough to root for. There are still some good guys on the team, but I'm positive our coach would like things to go back "to the way they used to be"...so would we, coach, so would we. In 1999-2001, the problems with members of the team were not as prevalent, and the product was not only more entertaining, but higher quality. Further, the coach seemed to care more about coaching and less about what was happening on the inter-web-net. Oh, for the good ole days.

Hey in addition to blogging and checking your stocks on the internet, did you guys know there is pornography on the internet? This thing is great!

Old people are so funny with the way they dismiss the Internet as a fad. Do some reading over at Fire Joe Morgan (firejoemorgan.blogspot.com) and you'll laugh your ass off. They basically skewer the old guard of baseball writers who clearly wish the Internet had never been invented.

And, of course, my main point in this post was that it's funny that Joe is mad at bloggers when they really have zero impact on his football program. Way to keep your eye on the ball, Coach!

JT Money apparently hasn't heard of Freedom of Speech. Sure, you can't yell Fire in a crowded theater, but how about Fire Tiller in a half-empty stadium?

Funny stuff James...I think you won't be the only one yelling it, come October.

No word on Purdue's newest basketball recruit?

Good pick up...and "confident" too. He said, "I'm just like Eric Gordon except I like to pass...and get my teammates involved. I also like to play defense."

That's nifty for two reasons. In case you don't know (out-of-staters), Gordon is Mr. Basketball in Indiana and one of the top-5 recruits in the nation. He chose to wear candy-striped pants for the next two seasons or so (that's what he's thinking anyway). So, our guy, Greg Hill has already taken a shot at his soon-to-be opponent. AND, he's also shown that he's going to be a team guy. That's probably a good thing since Moore is going to be the scorer of the incoming class.

Notes:
-Hill will have four full years of eligibility since he's coming from a Prep school, not a JuCo.
-He's a solid 3-star recruit.
-In the Prep School National Semifinals, Hill scored 29 points in an overtime win...he does have the ability to score.
-He comes from the same prep school which brought us Brad Miller and Chad Austin.
-Purdue still has a scholarship to use, but looks like they will bank it for next year.
