Hey, We Don't Call Him "Coach Sanctions" For Nothing...

Bloomington, IN-
Surprising no one outside of Bloomington & Martinsville, Coach Kelvin Sanctions has once again violated NCAA regulations. This time, IU tells the NCAA, "No need to worry about it, we're handling it."

Sampson's statement was as follows:
" I am the leader of this program. The responsibility lies with me as far as NCAA rules. We have had some issues as far as being 100% compliant on the telephone rule. I agree with Rick Greenspan about the penalties. Our goal is to be 100% compliant. We did a good job in almost every area except the telephone rule. As we move forward, we are dedicating to doing this thing the right way, to be 100% compliant as go on and we look forward to that. "

Is that not the best apology you've ever heard? My favorite part is, " We did a good job in ALMOST every area except the telephone rule." Huh, so there are other violations we don't know about...Sweet! Can't wait to hear about them...and we will.

Here's the thing, IU fan- No one has ever doubted that Coach Sanctions is a winner...But at what cost? You knew when you made your deal with the devil, that he broke the rules, but you all jumped on board, hook, line and Crimson Sinker. Do not be surprised when these small violations turn into something much more serious. It's probably already happened, but Kelvin just hasn't gotten caught. He will, it's just a matter of time.

Well here is the thing, we didn't all jump on board. And also, how in the hell is he a proven winner? One trip to the final 4 and he was beaten by Coach Davis. They spent 75k on a consultant to find this cheater and they deserve whatever they get.

Glad to hear you're visiting again, T-Bozz. I know you're not a fan of the hire, but I think I will be in a few years when IU basketball gets punished for hiring him.

Hey, he's a winner...he beat Keady at least once in the NCAA tournament, and Keady was nails in the dance!

Isn't two crack dealers in the recruiting pipeline enough punishment for you.

First class jackass.

What's funny about this is everyone saw this coming when the first sanctions were handed down. We all knew he would try a loophole like his assistant physically dialing the phone and handing it to Sampson.

As an actual IU student, let me add my $0.02...

While I'm disappointed that Sampson broke the rules (twice), I'm not surprised. Anyone who reads this board knows/has followed recruiting for basketball and/or football. Bottom line is it's a sleazy business. No school should ever be on a moral high horse about following rules, morality, etc because recruiting in this day in age is DIRTY. Everyone cheats or recruits kids with questionable moral character. It's just varying degrees of that. We could all sit here and list violations that every Big Ten School has done, but the fact is still the same. College Sports are big business and schools and coaches will always cheat or bring in questionable kids in order to win, or make money.

I'm not excusing Sampson, but it makes me think "where there's smoke, there's fire." If it's phone calls now, what will it be later? Cash? Cars? I don't care about dumb phone calls, but I care about what could be. That's what worries me the most.

Sampson shouldn't be fired for this, but if something else (more serious than phone calls) comes out, then good riddance.

MJS- I'm sad for you...actually on a lot of levels. But I'll focus on responding to your silly statement above- Many of your fellow Hoosiers have prided themselves in being fans of a squeaky-clean basketball program forever. I think that's truly something to be proud of. Your athletic director decided to hire a proven cheater.

Cheater is defined as:
Someone who uses trickery or dishonesty in order to win a contest.

Sampson is a cheater. You can say he's only a little cheater or whatever makes you feel better about your leader, but he's a cheater. He was hired under no false premise- everyone knew what they were getting into...Congratulations to you and the other Hoosier fans who think this isn't a big deal...You should have a whole bunch of "small deals" coming your way in the coming seasons.

The really sad thing for people who dislike Purdue is Mike Davis owned Purdue. Sanctions is 1-1 versus the Boilers...I'm looking forward to getting back to the business of really disliking IU basketball. Seems like there's plenty of reason to do so..And fans, like yourself, who believe he did nothing wrong because the Tom Penders, Bob Huggins & others of the basketball world do it to makes Kelvin's actions no less dirty and the hire no more respectable.

Congrats on the great recruits that are coming in too...bunch of real good guys. I wonder why...

Sampson is a cheater, and Indiana can't deny that. He broke rules, and he is suffering the consequences. I'm actually hoping the scholarship takes away an additional scholarship b/c the one that was taken away was going to Bud Mackey, and we don't have to re-hash that situation.

My point is this: people who take pride for IU running a "squeaky clean" program are delusional. Knight may have never broken an NCAA violation, but he choked players. While I would rather neither cheating nor choking to occur, I can't say I'm surprised with Sampson.

Cheater? Yes, of course. Guilty as charged. Should be fired? No way. My earlier comment came off as rationalizing his behavior, whereas I was rationalizing his non-firing over this. Bottom line is his behavior is wrong and I'd like to see a little more punishment.

Through all of this, I'll still support the team. I guess this is where we'll disagree, but if you think Mike Davis was running a tight ship and nothing went wrong (on and off court) then I don't know what to tell you.

In addition, it's sad that a Purdue fan of all people should be questioning the character of collegiate athletes. Let's just say that both schools have had their fair share of knuckleheads and leave it at that.

If you're referencing Crump, I think he shouldn't be playing for Purdue. If you're talking about football players, I've been pretty clear where I stand on this- I don't want thugs playing for Purdue. In fact, I wanted Tiller fired when all of the legal issues were occurring. Ask the people that sit around me- I really don't support Keglar or Lymon because of what transpired in the spring. What else do you have?

I think you're smarter than blindly following this moron. And shifting blame because others are questionable is a silly tactic. It won't work with this group.

Sanctions shouldn't have been hired in the first place...that's my entire premise. But, he skirted a minor rule in hopes that he'd get over...even his apology tells you he's breaking other rules.

Fire now or suffer later.
