Congrats, Robbie!!!
At this point, he's won nothing, but Hummel's been named to a truly elite group of players and his coach has been named to an elite fraternity as well. Robbie is up for National Player of the Year (Oscar Robertson Award) and Coach Painter's up for the Coach of the Year (Henry Iba Trophy). I'm not surprised by Painter being recognized, but am shocked by Hummel's name being on such a list. That said, what Hummel's done is worthy of some accolades...I can't wait until he and his team mates have a true point guard in the starting line-up. Should be fun.
By the way, I predict Hansbrough will win the POY award, and Coach K will win the Coach of the year...he's overcome so much to get that undermanned Duke squad to where they are right now.
This will go on the shelf with
Matt Painter coach of the year,
Robbie Hummel player of the year

Nice dig at Duke, but I don't think Coach K will get it. Painter has a very good shot.
Dig? What? Not me.
Agreed. Painter has an excellent shot at the Iba. I'm guessing it will come down to Painter, Barnes and Pearl.
I say Coach of the Year is down to Painter or Keno Davis. What he has done at Drake out of nowhere is very impressive.
I'd tend to agree with Travis...But I don't know anything.
Not bad for Robbie either, especially considering he is a role player at best that needs great players around him. He won't begin to contribute until he is at least a junior.
Any word on where that hot shot freshman at IU is on the list? I assume he's just too good and they left him off to make it fair for everyone else.
BTW, I did give Terry Hutchens a friendly reminder of this on his blog today...
With Hummel being nominated it must certainly must point to the fact that they are looking at alot more than just numbers (Gordon). The manner wich he plays the game, his overall game , his off the court character and academic standing.
Also, lots of great stories about IU today. Kellen Lewis suspended, Ebanks opening up his recruitment, Calloway making a 360 degree change in academics and not being sure about his IU committment. Great Day!
