Tough Loss

Moore and Martin played well and Hummel almost got into the groove, but no one wanted to take the reigns...Thus, the Butler-led Buckeyes got a quality win last night at the worst-named arena in America. The team that wanted it more tonight, got the win.

People can say whatever they want about Thad Matta being a great coach, they're not correct. What I saw yesterday was an OSU team that simply is filled with talent and quickness that has no business being on the outside looking in at the Big Ten race. If you have guard play like aOSU does coupled with skilled bigs, you should not only have 20 wins at this time, you should be talking about which seed you're going to be, not if you're in or out. I hope aOSU fans were frustrated last night as they watched the game, because it seems to me that their team simply decided to compete. It's coaching when your team doesn't compete night-in-night-out.

I guess Purdue is never going to win in Columbus again...that's great, it will save the University thousands of dollars each season from now on; they don't even need to make the trip. While aOSU is a talented team, Purdue acted like a bunch of underclassmen at times and didn't take what was theirs- victory and a share of the Big Ten title. It burns me too- You sweep Wisconsin and only lose to upper-division teams on the road and will only have a third-place finish to show for it. Purdue has no one to blame but itself.

The articles I've perused have Moore, Hummel and others all talking about how frustrated they are to have let the BT title slip. Hopefully, they're motivated enough to make noise in the Big Ten tournament now. Rankings and publicity don't matter anymore this season...what really counts is nearly upon us.

It hurts. Bad.

ESPN kept telling me that OSU really NEEDED this game and it was SO important to them. Wait, isn't this the team that went to the NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP GAME last year?!? Isn't this the pampered, prima donna school that sent its football team to the last TWO championship games? Just how hungry should they be? Let me tell you this... I needed this game. Purdue needed this game. We haven't hung a basketball championship banner since '96. We haven't done ANYTHING in football since 2000 (and before that, an eternity). Keady NEVER made a final four, despite a few close calls.

Keep making money off the big name top tier schools, ESPN, but don't EVER tell me they need a win more than Purdue.

ESPN can suck it.

Tough pill to swallow. Jamar Butler showed up to play in 2 Big Ten games this year... both against us. Overall, I'm happy with the effort the Boilers showed. I would have liked to see more charges taken (other than Hummel) and better break down of that extended zone... BUT it was a pretty good game and the home team simply won a grind it out Big Ten slugfest.

Anyone else feel like they were kicked in the nuts after this loss?

absolutely.

I don't think it was a regular kick in the nuts.

It was more like realizing that your feet were trapped in mud, and before you got them free, you'd get kicked in the nuts, but it didn't happen right away. And then as the second half went on, it looked like you might get your feet out in time and not get kicked at all.

And then you almost get your feet out, but you get pushed down in the mud again, and as you struggle to get up, then, and only then, you get kicked in the nuts.

Ohowihate Ohio State.

cheaters.

What really annoys me is Painter's mishandling of Kramer. When you sit a player because of foul trouble and then that player doesn't foul out, you didn't maximize their time on the floor. It is such flawed logic. Who knows what would have happened if Kramer guarded Butler for most of the 2nd half. Painter never should have changed that.

Its kind of like the same logic of never taking your car out of the garage because it might get a flat tire if you drive it. As a result, you never enjoy the car and its collects dust....but hey, you never got a flat tire!

I am worried for our young boilers...the last few games, they have been slow on defense. The pressure is there, but whenever someone drives, we are always trailing, thus helping and giving up to many dunks and layups. I feel they are wore down and its a bad part of the season to be physically and mentally tired.

Matt, Dude is hurtin'...so is Keaton.

While I know Kramer's a defensive stalwart, his offensive numbers have gone down because of injury...and Grant's have gone down due to the same reason.

Plain and simple, our guys are playing tired and worn down. Painter's trying to keep it together...not easy.

I saw a lot of standing around on offense. That is never good.

Anyone else notice that when Martin has a high scoring game, the team as a whole isn't doing well?

Now that you mention it '38, I did seem to me that the defence seemed a little off. Slow even.

Kicked in the jimmy just about covers it...

They had a bitch of a time fighting against all of OSU's screening last night. Butler doesn't need much space at all.

When Grant moves on defense I worry the whole time that his knees are just going to buckle. It's obvious that this team is tired and a step slow on defense. Even on offense their passing was not as crisp as it has been in the past.

Did anyone else hear them say that this coming off season will be the first that Kramer has been able to dedicate to basketball rather than other sports? It'd be a great chance for him to get some shooting practice and get healthy.

Martin played well v. NW...Purdue won by 25.

Was anyone else pissed about Erin Andrews and Brent Musberger calling Painter "Matty"? Erin did it twice and then Musberger did it 5+ times, I quit counting. They would never call Coach K Mikey and can you imagine the furor if they used a diminutive nickname for an African-American coach, like Johnny Thompson?

It makes Painter sound like he's 10 years old. I doubt if his own family ever called him Matty.

I sent an email to ESPN, not that it'll do any good. But please someone tell me that this irritated you too. BTW, Google Musberger sucks and look for the drinking game that pops up in the first entry or 2

row -

It irritated me too. No idea where they got that from.

YES. I noticed it, too, and eventually began saying out loud, "Don't effing call him Matty, Musberger!" He's not your freakin' pal! He calls Lavin "Lav" and so if he called Painter "Coach Paint" or something like that, I'd be fine with it... but yes, Matty is something his buddies can call him when they're playing softball... not on a broadcast. Erin Andrews, however, can call any man pretty much anything, I imagine.

As for Matty's use of Kramer, I agree. And when you put him back in with 2 mins left and he has a chance to contest a huge bucket and DOESN'T because he doesn't want to foul out... well, that's just stupid. He might as well BE fouled out if he's going to play a different game and be on the bench for large chunks of time.

I think Musberger calls Lavin "Lav" because his breath smells like a toilet.
