Something to think about: Purdue has had two first-round draft picks, two seasons in a row...Probably will have a third next year with Painter. All that makes me is frustrated that the talent is clearly pretty solid, while the team's results have been smack-dab in the center of the conference. Frustrating.

I think that once he has a strict steroid policy hatin' on him, he'll have trouble staying as physically freakish as he seems to be right now...also, I've heard he takes plays off. Never a good thing.
My favorite part of the entire draft was seeing my man Colt Brennen plummet to 186th pick and hearing Jaws still argue that he wasn't worth it. Indeed. But, if an influx of WAC d-backs make their way into the league, he'll be all-pro. Also noteworthy, his thugged-out wideouts were all left at home to sip Mai Tais, Hawaiian Punch or whatever the hell those degenerates drink when not getting arrested back on the mainland.
Oh yeah, Tom Zibikowski was picked at a rock-solid 86th. Did you know he was a boxer?
Now onto our favorite pro teams:
Indianapolis Colts
The Colts first pick was offensive lineman, Mike Pollak from Arizona State. After that, they got a couple linebackers, a couple tight ends, a few more lineman and even a wideout from Mount Union (I didn't know they had a team). But, I'm a big fan of the backup running back they picked up. I think Mike Hart will see substantial action in the Colts 2-back set. He's like a rich man's James Mungro, who I always liked as a Colt.
NY Giants
The World Champs added quite a bit of fire power on the defensive side of the ball by adding some very good defensive backs and linebackers, most note-worthy, Kenny Phillips from the U. The funniest pick is that of once-super Mario Manningham. At one time, I thought that guy was a fast-as-lightning giant. Turns out, when he's in Indianapolis, he's not only a shade under six feet tall, but also a 4.6 40 guy. I actually think he'll be very productive, but I'm still shocked at his lack of height. Maybe all of the corners in the Big Ten are my height and he just dwarfs them.
Cleveland Browns
The Browns had some needs at linebacker, and picked up a few of them. The Browns draft was pretty uneventful due to the fact that their earliest pick was in the fourth round. They picked up a few offensive weapons in tight end, Martin Rucker from Mizzou and possession receiver, Hubbard from Wisky. Hopefully, they figure out how to cut a bit of their extra costs and can spend their money a bit more wisely in coming seasons.
One last point- Boiled Sports has had an amazing effect on the complexion of the NFL since its inception two years ago. What do I mean? Well, my team is the Colts ('07 World Champs). J's team is the Giants ( '08 World Champs). Is it too early to predict Tim's team as world champs in '09?? I think not. Put it down in Sharpie!

Boilerdowd, Mt Union is a serious DIII powerhouse, and I'm not joking.
I agree about Purdue underachieving with the talent we've had, but I'm not sold on Painter as a 1st rounder yet.
No word about the Giants taking another QB in Andre Woodson? I'm surprised he slipped that far, and he was probably the best player left with that pick, but it's not exactly a need for them. They're freaskishly deep at the position now, and also strangely have 2 former Kentucky QBs on the same team (Hefty Lefty). They may be the only 2 UK players in the NFL (before this year's draft, and I'm only sort of kidding). I wonder if they may make a trade involving one of those guys.

Nate, thanks for the info on Mount Union...I know so little about the DII & DIII teams.
Woodson's backslide began in the middle of the season and hit its bottom at the Senior bowl (I believe). He looked pretty bad at times. I could honestly see Curtis having a very similar senior year, so I understand you trepidation.
The Pats and their gayish QB can suck it. My favorite thing that happened to NE in the offseason is that one less ex-Boiler is on that squad...If Light can get out of their my feelings of complete dislike no longer will need to be watered-down.
Bryant not only struggled, but then went to the media with a pretty lousy attitude regularly during last season. That coupled with the fact that his films probably show his lackluster effort and he's still sitting at home on Monday. He'll get a shot someplace and hopefully finds a coach that can motivate him to the be player that he has the potential to be.
I'm happy June Jones is gone from the islands...but where ever he is will become a reclamation project team full of unlikeable guys who should probably be in the clink. I'm not sure how long it will take Haw-Waaa-eeeee to purge the program of malcontents, but I'm guessing it will be a while. Good thing for them many "graduated".

dowd, i know it. i'll get excited once we upset UO, beat ND and PSU to start 5-0... only to have my soul crushed by a losing streak (likely involving UM/OSU and a couple of frustrating games we should win) late in the season that will drop us to a 3-5 conference finish.
i'd love to be proven wrong, but tiller's body of work does not lead me to optimism.

A first round tight end, a 3rd round DE, and a 4th round OLB DOES NOT equal wins in college football.
We need an offensive line, running game, and improved pass defense for starters.
Matt, the talent is there. Seems the development of said talent has been lacking in recent years.
Furthermore, Tiller's record, especially in the mid-season is what it is- horrendous. I do realize there isn't much of a concrete reason for optimism. I just figure, many wanted Tiller to call it a career, he has, now we should be positive about the boat we're in. What good does it do to continue moping?

If he's telling the truth and there was 10 teams calling him.... how in the hell are the Steelers the best situation? Yeah, it's a good organization and they are going to make the playoffs...

And the quarterback was campaigning for tall WRs.
Compare that to situations in CHI, KC, TB, MIN, OAK, MIA, BUF, WAS, SF, & TEN where converting oxygen to CO2 is about the only skill they require to play WR.

Knowing Dorien's character as we do, I'd say he was full of ba-hooey, to put it politely.
I doubt a third of the league was blowing up the cell phone of an undersized guy with questionable hands and even more questionable desire.
First things first: There is no way in hell Curtis Painter will be a first-rounder next year.
Also, while Purdue is ecstatic to have players in the first round two years in a row, it is a regular occurrence for Ohio State, Michigan, even Wisconsin to an extent.
The results are middle of the pack because the talent is also middle of the pack.

Boilerdowd, that second link has him going to the Bears? Something tells me that Painter is not the franchise QB that they've been looking for during the last eon. I'd say it's another draft pick for Bears fans to complain about.
Based on the 3 years I've been watching Painter, I don't think he'll be a 1st rounder. That's my gut feeling. Obviously the 'experts' feel differently at this time. Of course, these same experts anointed Woodson as a Heisman favorite mid-season and had him as a high first rounder in the draft. Hmm... first round, sixth round, not too far off I guess. What a job they have!
And there's the bottom line: nobody really knows where he'll go. He may have an awesome season (please?) and then tank in the combine and/or senior game and drop way down the board. He may do the opposite, and be the next hot commodity in the pre-draft stuff.
One thing's for sure: all he can do now is to improve his game and get a lot tougher mentally. I sincerely hope he does and helps both the team and himself. I'm beginning to drink the Boiler KoolAid again and my optimistic side is coming out... no matter how many times they crush my spirit I just keep coming back for more.
If Brian Brohm isn't a first round pick, there's no way Curtis Painter is.
