In what has been obvious to everyone for about the past two months, Barack Obama effectively clinched the Democratic nomination for President last night.
Yet, despite this, Hillary Clinton refuses to completely accept it:
"I will be making no decisions tonight."
And why would she? She's Hillary Clinton, dammit, and this is her time! And no black dude is going to take that away from her! She's white! And a woman! How much more "progressive" do you really want, America?
For a good read on why her campaign ultimately failed, here's a good story in the Globe and Mail.
The closing paragraph:
"Entitlement is a dangerous and inexcusable characteristic in any candidate. No individual, even one as talented and as well-connected as Ms. Clinton, is entitled to lead his or her country; to do so is an enormous privilege and responsibility that must be earned. In democratic countries, few dynasties will be sustained in the absence of humility."

I'm interested to see if Obama tabs Billary for the V.P. slot. I guess that would be Hillabill? No, go with the first, it sounds better. At any rate, I don't think he will, though he would probably pick up a lot more votes if he did. She would probably be hiding in the White House, trying to surprise him and and take him out, ala the Pink Panther movies.
If his strings are being pulled by the DNC, he must pick her. If he isn't a puppet, he'll put her as Sec. of Health and Human Services and try to socialize medicine. Let's hope that we don't have to see them in office. A system of socialized health care is not the solution to the problems that exist.
You'd think they'd pick up more votes, but I think that's not true. These two are fighting over the same voters that either of them would get in the Fall.
Hillary would not help Obama in the deep South, the heartland, or Texas. Obama needs an older, white male to help him out... preferably a southern, down-home guy. Because if you think the South and hearland are voting a black guy into the office -- much less a black guy with a woman running mate -- you're foolin' yourself.
Should be interesting...
What? Anti-Hillary sentiments from Purdue graduates? No!
Ms. Clinton? Last I heard, she was married. Oh by the way, in case you hadn't heard, her maiden name is Rodham.
Hooray. Hooray for Hillary.
Unfortunately for the Republican party, my intense dislike for her does not make me want to vote for John McCain.
I'm not too enthralled by any of the candidates. Clinton and Obama are the same candidate. They believe in the same things. It reminds me of a quote from Futurama.
"Jack Johnson goes too far!"
"John Jackson doesn't go too far enough!"
Universal health care will the biggest disaster to hit the U.S. since social security.
I don't like McCain because I've always seen his as the conservative version of the Clintons. He changes his beliefs to whatever is most popular at the moment.
Maybe those days are behind him, since he is sticking to his ideas on the war, but I don't get a comfortable feeling from him.
Tim-bo,
I love the episode of Futurama - one of the best. Robot Nixon rules.
J - I was referring to all those unhappy Clinton supporters who are saying they won't vote come November, as Ryan eluded to. But I'm with you, I think they will go in and vote for the BO instead of seeing McCain make it.
I think we should have a do-over and get all new candidates. I think we should listen to what the Brain Slugs have to say...
Tim, so you'd rather not vote at all than vote for McCain? Am I getting that right?
Huh.
I don't agree with every piece of legislation he's voted to pass, but you believe the nation would be better suited if only the left voted and we ended up with one of the least-experienced presidential candidates to ever run?
By the way, Tim, in case you don't read him, you would probably love the new book by George Will. Will is like Ron Paul without all of the racism and shenaningans.
She wants another crack at it in 2012, so she is trying to stay in the discussion and stay close to the process for as long as possible.
I'm saying that I don't really like any of the main candidates, so I don't know what I'm going to do yet.
I don't like the idea of voting against someone. I want to vote for someone. It just happens that I don't really want to vote for any of these someones.
Maybe I'll write myself in. Or Gene Keady. We'll see.
"A system of socialized health care is not the solution to the problems that exist."
Well said. This kind of government intervention would have all kinds of adverse effects such as massive shortages.
I would have preferred Romney or Rudy, but I can get behind McCain. Even though he close to the middle, it sure beats the alternative of higher taxes and more government involvement that Obama will pursue.
