Just In case you're still a fan of the olympics...
Here's something to keep in mind- The pinheads at the IOC recently backed down as the Chinese Gymnastics Team told them that they're earlier documentation of their girls ages didn't count and the most recent were the most accurate...But that's not even close to the biggest example of how the IOC stinks.
Much like the UN, the IOC makes big statements and proclamations and does nothing to follow up when those rules, regulations and warnings are broken. Even more bothersome is the fact that China, it's opening and the games on a larger scale are being praised by NBC, the world media and the IOC as a great success. This is a travesty.
These games are at best a sham and at worst a disgusting example of the worst the world has to offer...Read here for more...and make sure to click all of the links along the way for details.
I'm saddened and angered in hindsight by the fact that I actually watched these olympics on TV. The painful fact is that moneys from McDonalds, Nike and others were poured into the heartless, human-crushing machine called the PRC because of hypocrites like me. While sport is entertaining and I love to see America win, there are better ways to support her than watching this olympiad. Damnit.
China, you can suck it.
IOC, you can too- you empowered Hu and the PRC's march toward ZERO progress in the realm of human rights and freedom was made during the past two weeks/two years. But honestly, what level-headed person would believe that negotiating and bargaining with a communist regime would end any other way?
This will go on the shelf with
2008 Beijing Olympics,
Beijing Olympics a joke,
Human Rights,
human rights shuman rights,
Human what now?,
Suck it China,
Suck it IOC,
the olympics can suck it

Amen. What a joke these Olympics have been. From the classy Spanish basketball team to the ridiculously obvious underage Chinese gymnasts, this has all been an opportunity for China to flex its muscle to the world.
Couldn't agree more. I was kind of finding myself disgusted while watching the excess of the closing ceremonies. I don't want to hear about the wasteful excess of Americans anymore -- spending $300 Million on the opening ceremonies (and likely an equal amount on the closing) is ridiculous and just stupid. It's China trying to raise the bar to where it can never be reached. Good for you, China, you continue to not value human life at all... yet NBC likes you! Well-done!
And to hear Cris Collinsworth wax on and on about how amazing things were, please... give us a break. I have no doubt the competitions were great -- we have the athletes to thank for that. But the way China behaves now and at all times is an abhorrent example of how a major nation should act.
And no matter how you slice it, China... you may have more than three times as many people as us, and you may have government-mandated programs to "develop" athletes from the time they're very young.... but in the end, we still had more overall medals.
Suck on that.
But the judges made damned sure that they got their golds in the non-head-to-head sports.
One of my favorite stories was about a Chinese diver who had been placed to be a gymnast by the PRC Olympic organizers, but was moved to diving in her mid-teens...she said her new diet worked well for her because she didn't like eating all that much. True, true. Even as emaciated as she looked, her family was more hungry back in Shinzen, or where ever they were living.
Confucious say, "If 40 pound diver jumps from platform into water it will not make the water ripple."
I found reading that bit about the opening interesting. The organizer pretty much called Westerners lazy and completed North Korea. The Chinese have a very long history of a class system and serving masters. If those guys want to do that stuff - fine. Using North Korea as your measuring stick - the Western world really won't think of you as civilized now.
Dude, can you be more negative? I watched it for the athletes and competition involved. I watched it to cheer on my country. I think I came out a winner. Why focus on all the negative things? Seems like you are looking to find the bad stuff. If you are informed enough about the negative aspects of China before these games, then certainly the olympics didn't change your opinion nor should it have.
Feel free to call up the athletes and tell them the last two weeks were a sham. I'm sure they'd love to hear it. Man, what an insult.
I'm glad you respond the way you do- I expect it. You're the same guy who wept over the hundreds of people that lost their homes because of in Iraq during the war because the evil Bush-led US Army had to get rid of Hussein...but, you don't seem to care about 1.5 million who lost their homes in an effort to build up the PRC and entertain the world. Should we discuss those who are still in prison for merely REQUESTING the right to protest? Nah, let's focus on the positives...Did you see the rhythmic gymnastics? Spell-binding.
You know what's an insult? Disregarding the fact that people will NEVER be able to come home because of an athletic competition...that's insulting.
You know what else? My next door neighbor was nearly a US Olympian (Adam Shunk http://www.oregonlive.com/trackandfield/index.ssf/2008/07/mens_high_jump_qualifying.html) and I have told him my feelings about these games. You know better than to infer that I wouldn't make these statements to the competitors.
I'm glad you think you came out a winner for this olympiad- Congrats! But if you think that's the point of my post you don't get it at all.
Did you see that Obama said China has superior infrastructure? What a joke. Business is booming in because they have lower corporate taxes.
Here's an example of how it works in China:
Prior to the handoff of HK back to the Chinese, PRC wanted to show the world that they didn't need the British to build a world class airport and city. So, they leveled a mountain range, displaced about 20,000 people and built the Shenzen Bao'an Int'l. Airport, a city near by and surrounding highways.
Problem is, even a schlep like me could see this process was hasty as there were piles of rubble from the mountains they took down and the shanty towns they destroyed just off of the highway...and I was there years after the airport opened.
To hell with those living near by, they built a cool airport and didn't need the Brits help!
