The BS Blogpoll -- We'll Figure This Out Yet

Yes, we know it's already Tuesday, but it feels like Monday, doesn't it? Kind of like how the '00s make the '80s feel like the '70s did back in the '90s. Wait, what? Never mind.

Here's our poll for this week:

RankTeamDelta
1 Florida
2 Southern Cal
3 Texas
4 Oklahoma State 2
5 LSU
6 Penn State 1
7 Alabama 2
8 California 5
9 Utah 1
10 Mississippi 4
11 Virginia Tech
12 Ohio State 4
13 Boise State 3
14 Oklahoma 10
15 Michigan State 4
16 Georgia Tech 2
17 TCU
18 Nebraska 3
19 Georgia 7
20 Texas Tech 2
21 Kansas 2
22 Tennessee 3
23 Missouri
24 Brigham Young
25 Notre Dame
Last week's ballot

Dropped Out: Oregon (#15), Illinois (#20), Rutgers (#24).

If you don't like it, let us know. I don't really care that much, but if you make a salient point, it will go into the hopper and we'll see what comes out. Oregon, Illinois and Rutgers all lost their spots in our poll -- Illinois for their inept showing, Rutgers for making me look a fool, and Oregon for just being all-talk chumps. They'll have their chance to get back in.

And yes, I included Notre Dame in the poll, lest we be accused of completely unfair homerism or haterism or whatever. Yes, they steamrolled Nevada over the weekend. But let's also remember that they feel they should always be steamrolling the Nevadas of the world, yet in recent years that's been far from the case.

I told you BYU deserved a good preseason ranking!!

BYU beats the #3 team in the country in a quasi-road game (90% sooner fans in Texas) and they just barely make your top 25? You might say it was because Bradford was knocked out, but the BYU defense had shut down Bradford too. And BYU was without their leading rusher Harvey Unga. Come on guys!

I have now watched the Blount video 280 times, and I am so ready to beat Oregon.

Anyone got any good Oregon Football blogs that I can go raise hell in?

"Good" is a relative term. www.addictedtoquack.com is a good blog, actually, but they sort of defended Blount from the "he was asking for it" perspective.

Fair points, Matt. Not sure how much was BYU being the pure awesomeness you think they are and Oklahoma being overrated. You'll note I dropped OK ten spots.

I watch most of the BYU/OK game - it looked like two idiots trying to find the corners of a round room. OK didn't show up and BYU surprised themselves. Both teams showed that they need to improve.

I like the drop to OK and OSU. I think BYU could be a little higher - maybe 17 or 18. Utah should not be in the 9 spot - they need a lot of improvement as well. I almost think Boise and Utah should be switched. PSU is probably a little high as well. I think Nebraska is too high.

Thanks to Illinois for showing up...

Since this is just one vote of many, I went with putting Utah high because they kind of got a screw-job last year and if it were up to me, they'd get a little "reward" in the polls this year until they prove they don't deserve it. I'd rather vote them higher after a nice opening win than only drop Georgia a little bit or Oklahoma, etc. Those teams are supposed to be from these juggernaut conferences and lose early... so for now, Utah and Boise get some props from me. Do I think they'd be dominant in power conferences? Of course not... but it's hard to not reward them for their dominance with the schedules they have.

Heh. Purdue's undefeated. Where are they at in the poll?

I don't understand Michigan State that high. Cincy not on the ballot is a little surprising after how well they played.

I'm also high on Baylor. Griffin is good and they beat a BCS team. Arizona looked pretty good against Central Michigan, which is supposed to be really good with Lefevour.

And the requisite BYU that low? comment.

About the only thing I'd suggest is switching Boise State and Utah. Boise State beat what everyone thought would be a good team. Utah beat Utah State, a team no one thinks is a good team.

Utah at #9? Your rationale of rewarding them for last year is nonsensical. This is a new season. Utah will have trouble with TCU and BYU.

Yes, but I have a vote and you do not.

Thanks for the feedback, everyone. I'm taking it all to heart and will submit and post the official BS ballot for this week by tomorrow morning. You're all the best, as always.
