UM Blogger Gives Pointers on Class; Rest of Conference Laughs

So Maize N Brew decided to attack us for having an opinion when their coach took ours to task in his press conference when nothing he was asked had anything to do with the game he had just lost. MNB also advised us to "stick to topics [we] actually know something about."

Gotta tell you, junior, as tempting as it is to ask you for permission on the topics we write about, I don't think it will happen.

And let's also say this up front -- we don't mind being taken to task. It's fine. But to imply we're dumb or short-sighted or ignorant or "uninsightful," well.... okay, maybe those things are accurate. But to be called out by a MaizeNBrew for such things is sort of like Rosie O'Donnell giving us tips on being trim. Doesn't make much sense.

Let's deconstruct the MaizeNBrew hissy fit. It is fun to see that, just like their coach, they look for things that aren't really relevant to focus on. Fitting.

Boiled Sports had a few things to say about Rodriguez's post-game comments regarding Hope's low-class move after the game. Quite frankly, who the hell cares?

Evidently, you do. Enough to attack us.

Nobody, that's who.

Besides you.

Hope apparently didn't like Rodriguez calling out a blatant cheap shot several weeks ago that just so happened to be by a Purdue player.

Which, when I wrote the post, I specifically said up front that I didn't like the Reckman hit at the time OR the way Hope handled things with your hypersensitive coach. How about YOU try reading for content? Or was English an elective at Michigan?

Of course Rodriguez's singling out of this play has nothing to do with the fact that it was Purdue and Hope but EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the Big 10 conference set itself up as judge and jury of such actions earlier in the season. Hope naturally is too uncouth to understand this

Wow, speaking of sticking to topics you know something about and showing some class... way to call a coach you know nothing about "uncouth." What do you call a coach who violates rules by overworking his players and whose players then agree to snitch on him?

and so
instead of focusing on his team's great win, Hope figured he'd really stick it to Rodriguez. What a class act.

We already acknowledged we didn't love it, as did Hammer and Rails. What more do you want? For better or worse, Hope's a loyal coach and loves his guys. This is how you build loyalty and keep guys from transferring away. You know, if you're into that sort of thing.

BS continues on to make a rather insight-less rant about Rodriguez's future and generally looks foolish doing so, which is pretty apropos actually.

Wow, that's quite a shot across the bow of the SS Boiled Sports. We're "insight-less"? How so? And we look "foolish" calling out a guy who we are coming to believe is imbalanced, given how he veers off-topic all the time, continues to tell your fan base they shouldn't expect things to improve soon, and cries at the drop of a hat? I'm not sure your anger is really with us, laddie, but maybe it's with Rich. Daddy issues are complicated, we understand. But this is what we call "projection." Show us on the doll where Michigan football hurt you.

And why are you defending RichRod like this? Is Rich's wife aware that you two are dating?

How about you lads stick to topics you actually know something about and celebrate your once in a generation win with some class? Too much to ask?

Again, thanks very much for offering your mad editorial skillz and suggestions. We did celebrate the win and we didn't call you out for having a problem with Hope, so why get personal with us? I only ask because you're clearly an expert on "class." Because nothing says class like a coach trying to avoid hard questions by calling out another coach.

Have fun getting curb-stomped by Wisconsin and Ohio State, and congratulations on being the fourth-best Michigan blog out there.

Apparently their AD likes to rough up students as well -

Good news, though, the CEO of Dominos might replace him. Maybe some free pizzas will quell RichRod's tears.

Ben -- Instead of a fine or a suspension you just look ignorant. Good for you.

As far as the topic at hand, I have no idea what the idiots at MaizeNBrew are complaining about. It's not like you guys are defending what Hope did, you said yourselves that you don't like it. Crying over spilled milk, I'd say.

Sorry, Ben, liked some of your rant but we kind of have to draw the line at gay slurs and the like.

Typical move on the part of an out going or Coach under fire.

Try to obfuscate the issues by bringing up irrelevant and no important topics. Rich Dick Rod should have kept his mouth shut… he only is adding fuel to the fire (Pun..).

The once truly Great program is now slogging the mud with the people of middle earth… How they hate to be among the common people.. This is bringing out the true colors of the Walmart fan base…

Take him down.. . and the entire program with it.

Hail to the new elite: OSU, PSU, and hopefully Purdue and the Spartans !

We can hope so, Sparty.

That was awesome! I have no hatred against Michigan and didn't have any problems at the game on Saturday, but that is sad. That sounds very Irish-fan like....

Yeah, I get it. We live in a PC world...where meaningless words are viewed of objects of hate. We also give out awards for last place in little league. What's the difference between 1st amendment rights and censorship? Apparently not much. Ouch, ignorant...such harsh words. It stings me deep down in my hurting parts.

boilerdowd said...

Words actually do matter, hoss...especially in a medium in which most of us will probably never meet.

But, we're privately-run...and we can censor as we see fit.

Mommatried said...

Well I understand your position but I can't say that I agree.

If I were to put hate posts on a Tranny/Bi/Gay/Lesbian board that would be one thing. To paint with a broad brush and say that Michigan Homers are stupid/homers/idiots/dorks/invalids...it is no different to me anyway than to call them a slang word referring to their sexuality...or any variation of the sort. But apparently some people take themselves TOO seriously.

But you know....since the moderators favorite books have to do with cross dressing and their occupation is as a FLUFFER, I'm certain that I am the one who stepped out into the cest pool of moral decay. Yes, I am evil. Glad I learned my lesson here.

That MNB writer sounds like he is 17 years old. Throwing in words he got from a thesaurus and throwing out insults without facts.

Wow! After this and the Manny Harris elbow last year, I am beginning to see Michigan fans as among the whiniest of the conference. They are too pathetic to hate as I hate OSU fans, so I must equate them most to ND fans. Perhaps if Dick Rod showed loyalty toward his players, he wouldn't have them squealing on him about his cheating ways! And what is with Ben and the gay slurs??? Weird- what does that have to do with anything? Maybe it just shows where his anger and insecurities come from.

DickRod's updated resume

-Messy exit from WVU. Controversy with 3 million buyout, suspiciously shredding documents.

-Recently implicated in a messy real estate lawsuit with a failed development near Virginia Tech's football stadium. On the hook for several million dollars.

-Many players transfer upon his arrival. One even transfers to Ohio State. They all make comments about how the culture has changed to the negative.

-Detroit Free Press runs story about Michigan violating rules about practice time. Many players rat out DickRod in the piece. NCAA launches investigation.

-Poaches Roundtree from Purdue and Shaw from PSU on the eve of signing day.

-Fake cries at press conference when discussing practice time controversy.

-The whole situation with Hope and Reckman. Sticks his nose in someone else's business, then whines about being held accountable for it by Hope.

-Worst season in the history of Michigan Football last year.

-1-5 in the conference this year.

-Record bowl streak snapped.

-Loses to Illinois in back to back years for the first time since the 1950's.

-Loses to Purdue at home for the first time since 1966.

I'd say he's off to a great start. Hope I didn't leave anything out.

What was wrong with Lloyd Carr as a coach again? I seriously didn't get why people wanted him gone. I remember watching his final game where Michigan beat Florida in their bowl game and you could tell the players absolutely loved him and wouldn't settle for sending him out on a loss and thus played hard and won a tough game.

Now they have this joker that can't take the heat from coach Hope. Not that I think what Hope did was the best way of going about it, but I wouldn't expect a grown man to be so troubled by it, especially one who has a job that requires toughness and leadership.

Ben, please settle down. Nobody said you were evil or needed "a lesson." In fact, I even said I liked your comments... I just don't feel right leaving up a comment in which someone refers to others as "fags" repeatedly. Sorry, but it's my prerogative. Just like Bobby Brown always sang about. Not trying to cause a rift with you... just asking to keep it from delving into slurs, that's all.

J Money-

I appreciate your response. As BoilerDowd correctly pointed out, this is a forum where most of us will never meet. In that regard, I would offer this context.

I typed my response as if everyone at this website were sitting in my living room...as if all of us were friends. If you knew me, you'd know this is all in jest. I am not intolerant. My discrimination exists towards everyone. I believe all of us do in some way or another...some may choose to call it something else. I don't know.

But to those whom I offended, I apologize. When I made the comment I was not actually contemplating the sexual preference of everyone at the Big House. I meant no ill will.

For the sake of engaging the conversation I said what I said. Please don't think less of me. Like I said, my prejudice is limitless. I think everyone is an idiot. I am too.

From MNB's latest post:

"These last three years, I find myself asking why I care so much; why the damage total thus far is 1 cell phone, window blinds, a wine glass, angry downstairs neighbors, a frightened dog, and a spouse who has asked more than once "shouldn't this be fun?""

I knew it! He IS a child!

As an MSU fan, I have to approve of your coaches' Rodriguez-taunting. It is the kind of thing that players are going to love. An analogy would be Dantonio giving Glenn Winston a second chance on the team. I wasn't really on board as a fan (At least suspend him a few more games), but I think its something the players will like and respect.

Though I have to say I like Rich Rodriguez a lot more than I like the parts of the Michigan fanbase that think he's not a "Michigan Man" and want to run him out of town for being a hill billy who isn't fancy enough to sit in Bo's chair. The same bunch that look down on MSU for having an ag program and such and basically just think they're better than us.

I'm generally happy for U of M to lose, though I'll root for them on occasion. Lately, I've been kind of bemused at their season. Their fanbase is kinda melting down, going through what wouldn't make MSU fans bat an eye, but since the Wolvies have been so good for so long, they don't know how to react. It's like seeing a college freshman have to do laundry for the first time or something. They're confused and unfamiliar. They become frustrated. They may respond by kicking the dryer, or crying.
