“We’ve gotten into this situation where integrity is really lacking and that’s why I’m glad I’m not coaching. You see, we’ve got a coach at Kentucky who put two schools on probation and he’s still coaching. I really don’t understand that.”
Wow. Please don't make us sound like we're defending slimy Coach Calipari please, Bob.
Yes, the last two places Calipari coached both wound up on NCAA probation right after he left and had to vacate wins and Final Four appearances. But Calipari was not found guilty of any wrongdoing. No, the good old days were not so much more virtuous, Sir Knight, as RTC points out.
However, we tend to believe in the principle that often times, where there's smoke there's fire. Calipari leaves smoke wherever he goes, so whether or not he was directly responsible or not is probably splitting hairs. Slick guys know how to avoid getting pinched. Non-slick guys give hoochies their personal cell number and then wind up with their wives attacking them with a golf club.
So, yes, Bob Knight might have a point about Coach Cal being slippery. However, when you've choked players, accosted students, attacked an assistant coach, choked a sports information director, wiped your ass and shown it to your players, thrown chairs at officials and players, and told the world to kiss your ass, well...you don't get to act like you're a pillar of class.

My personal favorite is Isiah Thomas award acceptance speech. Classic.
Warning: if bad words are offensive...be warned.

How have I missed that video all these years? Thank you Ben. I'm proud of Robert for keeping his cool there.
I will say that the longer Bobby is away from Bloomington, the more I like him. He's a bully and an ass, but he may also be the analyst/color guy who you will learn the most from in any sport. I say that begrudgingly, but he's in that discussion with Collinsworth and a few others.
Few people have the resume, audience, pulpit, & balls to call Calipari out. With the exception of Wooden & maybe Dean Smith, none of them are going to be lilly white.
That last paragraph is the reason I read this blog daily. Amazing work J Money.
Well, maybe THIS is my favorite Bob Knight clip. There are so many good ones.
Halftime Speech

One thing that's always bugged me about that "halftime speech", is why is he talking about not challenging Greg Graham? Wasn't he a Hoosier? This has to actually be at a practice right?
Christopher-
You are right in this is not a half time speech. I incorrectly copied that from another source. I think what he said was, "if you're not going to recover Greg Graham" speaking directly to him and then to the entire defense about their play...but he says "when we go up there Monday night" so it must be a practice. Still, to hear him say he's sick of losing to Purdue, always puts a smile on my face.
Once again this sight continues to disgust me. Another column bashing someone else instead of informing about your fans about Purdue university sports. That is why purdue fans are among the biggest joke in the country. If you don't agree with coach Knight your an idiot. If you think coach Cal had nothing to do with anything then you are flat out wrong. I know purdue fans are dumb...but I didn't know they were that dumb. Look into a fellow that goes by the name of "World Wide Wes". Although the NCAA has no sanctions against cal directly....its still the responsibility of the head coach no to let sleeze bags around your program. Turning your head to things doesn't make you a better coach or person. I know for a fact Kentucky has cheated for quite some time....offering players high salary jobs upon completing their BASKETBALL careers. Former IU players who were recruited by Kentucky have told me this personally. I think coach cal and kentucky are a great fit and Karma is a bitch.
PS: the only difference between purdue and kentucky is that kentucky actually wins something when they cheat. Here is a lil something on purdue for the percentage of fans that know almost nothing other than to buy a black and gold sweatshirt when espn tells them purdue is decent.

have a great holiday GO HOOSIERS!
I see the trolls are out early this weekend.
I agree with Chris. I've always enjoyed hearing Knight in the studio and during games. I don't think there's any question about his behavior during his coaching career, but some of that actually helps him in the studio. He'll actually call out Phelps or Vitale for sounding incredibly stupid, whereas the others tend to just nod and encourage the fools. (At least Vitale realizes that he's better off as a self-parody; Millen still seems to think that the best thing to do if you failed at a job is to pretend you never had it.)
I think Knight would have been better off not making any references to the old days and just talking about consequences for UK if the pattern repeats itself.

Sorry, but I gave up on reading your post after the first three 6th-grade-level spelling/grammatical errors. Feel free to try again when you have a real education.
Ha! Ryan I couldn't agree more. No IU professor would be proud to say, "I taught that guy English."
...Frank Kendrick's decisions hardly compare to Knight's or Sampson's.
Also, we've bashed Coach Cal plenty here.... my point was that we don't like either but it's hard to take Knight seriously when he's acting like he's virtuous.
But "your" entitled to your opinion, Ben. But if you want to talk facts, it's IU athletics that are barely above MAC-level. So who's the joke again?
Calipari is a cheater. Everyone knows it.
Sampson was a cheater. Everyone knew it.
USC buying luxury apartments for Leinhart and Bush is cheating, and the NCAA knows it.
But the money flows...and so the NCAA overlooks. As long as the cash cows make money, they overlook. They nail a few small schools and give them sanctions to look magnanimous in their "ethics," while the Caliparis continue raping all that is good about college sports.
