2010 Purdue Football: Game 5

As part of the BS football season preview at the end of August, we'd like the readers of BS to weigh in on the Boilermakers' chances in each of their games. Today, we discuss game 5.

The Boilermakers begin Big Ten play on the road at Northwestern, in likely their only night game of the year. This one will be under the lights and on the Big Ten Network. I don't think this means anyone beyond Northwestern and Purdue fans will be watching, but still, worth noting. Of course, if the Boilers win at UND and then blow out their next three foes, the Boilermakers and Rob Marve could be getting some attention at this point. Which, in most years, is the perfect time for the banana peel. And Northwestern will be more than willing to eat our banana. Wait, what?

Last year, the Boilers blew a 21-3 lead at home in a gut-wrenching, inexcusable loss to a mediocre Cats team. It's time to return the favor. Let's hope the players remember.

We better win, because I'm going to be there behind our bench screaming my lungs out cheering the Boilers to victory!

As with all Purdue-NW games, I watch with one eye closed and the other eye partially covered with my hand. Purdue's season can usually be summed up in how they play NW: in good years they roll them, on not-so-good years it is a toss-up. I've watched too man of these games in which the end result felt like a swift kick in the knickers. Hopefully, the team starts to gel and rolls over the Mildcats.

Purdue wins this one. I did not know ( or forgot ) that this was a night game. That's neat, and I agree it would be even neater if Purdue is 4-0 going into it. 4-0 start won't be easy. It's never easy to win on the road in the opener. Should be an interesting opener. Looking for a brilliant Marve. And does anyone know what to expect from Coach Kelly in his debut at ND? How do you prepare for Coach Kelly's Fighting Irish squad? With video tapes of ND from last year or video tapes of watching the Bearcats?
