Purdue v. Western Illinois Predicto

Not a whole lot to say...Boilers need to rebound in a big way and start to gain confidence and find an offensive rhythm.

Here's the leathernecks season ticket commercial:

Tim Says:
Here's what I know about Western Illinois. They play in Illinois. In their first game this year they beta Valpo 45-0. The end.

Here's what I know about Purdue. Their offense was crap for more than half the game last week. In the 4th quarter they finally showed some signs of life. The defense STILL misses way too many tackles. Wiggs will kick a 90 yard field goal this year. Put it in Sharpie.

Purdue needs to find a consistent running game. As soon as they do, the passing game will really hit its stride. A game against weaker competition should allow everyone to get some reps and some confidence. I think there will be a few sloppy big plays given up, but overall an W. Ill will be an overwhelmed opponent.

W. Illinois 10

J says:
There's not much to say. I said on the podcast that I will truly be disappointed if Purdue puts up less than 40 points. And, honestly, Purdue should roll up 50+ this weekend. More than that, though, I don't want to see the defense allow more than a maximum in the teens (like b-dowd likes them).

I think Mr. Marve will have a terrific first half and then we may see some Rob Henry in the second half, which is sure to send T-Mill into a blushing frenzy. Purdue needs to win this game convincingly.

boilerdowd says:
Regardless of the score, unlike J, I don't want to see a ton of Mr. Henry. Instead, I'd prefer to see Marve get as many reps as possible as opportunities are at a premium at this point for 9.

I don't know a ton about this team...and don't know how to find video of them since they're not televised often. What I do know is that they ran the ball very well last week and a ton of players ran the ball. My guess is we'll see some read option runs from their QB as Purdue has struggled with that in the past. I think the Leathernecks will score more than I'd like them to...but Purdue will win pretty easy.

I predict that the offense will struggle when it shouldn't, but given that this is I-AA competition, it won't be noticeable. The defense will make solid plays until the game is out of reach; there will be a couple of plays they'd like to have back.

It won't be domination like it should be, but then this is a team that took a winnable game in South Bend and flat-out refused to accept it.

Hey what happened with that "Your Purdue Sports Photos/Stories" competition? I was interested in seeing what everybody sent in.

I'm a follower of the Missouri Valley Conference formerly known as "Gateway Football Conference" for several years as I started a degree at Illinois State. BTW the ISU vs NU game will be a 70-0 affair.

The Leathernecks usually fair in the top 4 of the conf usually getting into the playoffs (yes they do playoffs) or being one game shy of it. The MVC is like the SEC of Div I-AA ball in which many programs join the conference to springboard into Div I ball. (Western Kentucky did this). The conference as a whole even considered the move.

With this stated I still believe at least a 45+ performance by Purdue with a spare touchdown in the end for the Leathernecks with our 3rd string players in.

52-7

So this team gives up 21 points to a division 1AA team and the only receiver who can catch the ball looks like he's done for the year. Awesome.

This is not a good football team.
