Sadly, no surprise here, for Mr. Smith

Keith Smith's season is done thanks to a torn ACL and MCL.

Smith now must petition with the NCAA for a medical redshirt and a sixth year of eligibility. Remember, after Smith started and played in limited action his true-Freshman season as a Safety, he redshirted his Sophomore year, then played WR for the last two seasons...he led the team in receiving and was an All-BT selection in '09. He was leading Purdue in receptions and yardage when he went down, Saturday v. WIU.

Antavian Edison and OJ Ross' opportunity to do big things is here now, as the sizable void left in this offense simply must be filled for Purdue to have any success.

According to multiple sources, Smith's spirits remain high, which is important- he will probably still be leading the team even while he's unable to play and practice. He had become a very vocal leader for the team and a spokesman, of sorts, during different media visits. Hope to see 8 return in 2011.

Yet another reason why playing teams like WIU does not really do a BCS teams any good.

That knee was bent pretty far in the wrong direction. Probably snapped multiple ligaments. I remember when Joe Tiller said he was going to be a special QB at Purdue.

Tiller also said Siller would be a special RB at Purdue...right on both counts.

An already thin team gets thinner. Good times!

What is with the evil ACL and their focus to attacking key Purdue athletes? So now that Mr. Hubble is ok, Mr. Smith goes down instead?

I think Smith is off to the NFL. I know his draft status will suffer, but if he concentrates on rehab, he could be ready for light duty before draft time. He needs to get what he can get. There is no guaranty that he wont get injured again if he is able to play for Purdue next year. Time to cheer on
Ross, Siller, and Edison.

I'm not sure Smith is fast enough to play WR in the NFL. Thoughts?

Me thinks Keith Smith and Robbie Hummel shouldn't eat at the same establishments anymore. They've both been fed shit soup.

He ran a 4.6 in high school and was probably quicker prior to Saturday. Reggie Williams runs a 4.6...Larry Fitzgerald runs a 4.63...Michael Jenkins runs a 4.6. I think he's OK.

Plus, he might be able to bulk up a bit to play H-Back...he's gotta call Keller for some word of advice on that one.

He'll be missed...but to me, it sounds like we might have seen his last catch as a Boiler, sadly.
