SHOCKING NEWS: Story About Notre Dame Football Embellished

Sit down, everybody.  This is kind of a bombshell.

It turns out that Rudy, everbody's* favorite underdog, was a bit of an exaggeration. I know, I was shocked, too. What is there to believe in anymore?

Joe Montana went on the Dan Patrick Show yesterday and, in between sounding like he was completely baked, Joe sighed through a grudging explanation that, yes, he was there when Rudy was there and yes, Rudy got to play in their last game... but no, nobody turned in their jerseys and threatened to quit and no, they were not playing anything but a cupcake and no, despite having carried him off the field, it wasn't done seriously. It was done as kind of a joke. You know, the kind of dick thing they do at Notre Dame that makes opponents and fans hate them.

Can you believe it? I know I can't.

To think.... a story involving Notre Dame football three-plus decades ago has been stretched and distorted beyond reality. I mean, what's next? IU basketball fans wanting to have Bobby Knight back for a night to honor him?

Oh.

*Everybody is defined as really sad, clueless people who think movies like Rudy and The Blind Side are actually true-to-life.

The best(?) part is that Rudy has made his entire life out of that game. I believe that he actually pushed for the movie to get made.

Looks like Joe needs to work a bit harder in his Shape-Ups.

The movie The Blind Side is actually pretty accurate to the truth. I know that by having read Michael Lewis' book.

Are you saying movies embellish the truth? You really broke a story here. Every ND fan I know knew about this years ago.

Just another sad, little post from a sad, little man with an inferiority complex. The game is over. Purdue lost, again. Take it like a man and move on to your epic battle against Western Illinois in a half empty stadium.

Here’s something that’s not embellished.
46-27-1, 5 out of the last 6

Still talking shit about an opponent that just beat you. Well done, Boilermakes. You’re always good for a laugh.

I wonder if Ronniebobbintheknob is the same d-bag that was sitting in front of me at the game last week... IU hat, knew a total of 3 ND players, couldn't stop talking about IU's upcoming basketball season and how they were going to shock the conference?

If not, I wonder if he is the genius that decided 5 total port-a-pots was enough for the 2500-3000 people in out lot?

Or, the same D that decided pass-outs are too complicated to figure out so everyone MUST stay in the stadium at halftime?

First ND-Purdue game at ND, last for which I will make that horrendous drive to trailer park central that is South Bend. I actually saw a triple-wide proudly displaying the ND flag. WOW! Lamest tailgating ever!

I am from the Chicago area and went to Catholic schools all my life until I went to God's country. I remember in grade school they showed Rudy to us before it hit the theater and Rudy himself came to our school for a pep talk. I was mesmerized back then about the story and now to hear it was exaggerated (got to love Hollywood) makes me feel kind of sad. Though you must admit for a guy to play D-1 football at his stature is pretty impressive even if it was for a limited time.
Oh and Ronnie don't you have anything better to do than comment on a Purdue blog. I hate people who come on to other blogs just to spread hate. We like to have fun here and we are all Purdue faithful so yeah we like funny stories about our opponents. I find it to be completey gutless to come in and try to start a fight in a comment section. I guarantee you wouldn't have the balls to stand up for yourself if all of us were in a room to say what you can say discretely in cyberspace. Do all of us a favor and go back to your ND sites and talk to them how great ND is and how everybody else sucks and spare us your crap. You only look like an idiot.

Boilergal, ND is one of the best tailgating and campus atmospheres for college football in the country. Even many opposing fans would admit that. It's a shame you are too bitter about your own sorry team to enjoy yourself on a great day for football. I'm not sure what IU basketball fans or port-o-pots have to do with my post, though.

Boilersmack, you must know quite a bit about me to be making guarantees. This blog talks more shit about ND than most sites around. If you want to dish it out, you need to be able to take some back. The guys who run this site are classic internet tough guys.

Actually, you're wrong, but I'm sure that's nothing new.

We ask people wearing their Domer gear all the time about their allegiance and if they went there, etc. We're not bashful or afraid of confrontation. If you'd ever been at a game with us, you'd know this.

However, since you're lecturing on what your post was about, I might point out that my post had nothing to do with last weekend's game and yet you chose to suggest that it did.... so...zip it, junior.

You're welcome to not visit. We do a lot more than talk ND trash, but regardless, we -- like a lot of people -- think Notre Dame is the overrated, hyperbole-ridden, strip club sinkhole that it really is. And we feel like bashing it sometimes. Such is life.

Enjoy another 6-6 season and I'm sure your Notre Dame gear will be back in the closet by mid-October.

Perhaps the same guy who wrote "Rudy" also wrote George O'Leary's resume...

@J Money, so you're a loudmouth in real life as well, congrats.

It's pathetic you're so insecure you have to confront people about wearing ND gear and ask if they really went there. Are you really so clueless as to not see that? What exactly are you trying to prove? ND has quite a few fans who didn't attend the school. Many popular teams do. You see, that’s why teams like ND sellout every game and are on network television every week, while Ross-Ade sits half empty for classic showdowns like this coming weekend’s game.

Where did I suggest your post was about the game? Of course your post wasn't about the game. Even your posts about the game aren’t about the game. In your digs at ND, you have to rely on anything other than the actual results on the field, or you would have to actually have to face reality about your middling football program.

Come on man, calling ND a sinkhole, that’s just over the line. I know ND’s campus will never compare to the grandeur that is Purdue’s sprawling, sterile and lifeless campus, but take it easy. I know the gameday experience at ND will never compare to the spectacle that is Purdue football. Everybody knows that. You have a really big drum. And an awesome jumbotron. But we’re trying our best, so take it easy.
Again, taking a shot at my fandom because that’s all you got. I graduated from Notre Dame. You wanna know how much I bench as well?
Maybe ND will be 6-6 at the end of the year. I doubt it. I do know one of the games in the win column will be from Purdue, though, like most years.

Ronnie, learn a new tune... you just keep falling back on Purdue sucks in your opinon and Notre Dame is great! yay!

I'm glad you went there and are loyal to it. But how is your bashing Purdue and taking digs any better than what you're criticizing us for?

Many, many people did NOT go to UND but claim to love it b/c they're "Irish," or "Catholic," or "like Brady Quinn because of his rugged handsomeness and fine ass." These are all fine, I guess, because they can like ND for whatever reason they want, but they're also the ones who get in people's faces and taunt AFTER wins... but after losses -- especially many losses -- simply disappear.

We, on the other hand, are consistent in our support for a team that that you really can't be a front-runner for. And we're consistent in our dislike of the hyperbole that makes up much of Notre Dame's vaunted history. And we're entitled to dislike and make sarcastic posts, like this one, at the expense of a program we loathe.

You, by the same logic, are entitled to go away.

I don't know that what I'm doing is any better. I'm not trying to be better. I'm simply giving it back. Why have a comment section if you don't want any interaction?

I don't doubt your run-ins with some ND fans, but have you actually been to a game at Notre Dame Stadium? I've never once seen an ND fan taunt a Purdue fan after a win. The way a Purdue fan is treated at ND, versus the way an ND fan is treated at Purdue, are pretty much at opposite ends of the spectrum. ND fans are respectful or fairly indifferent toward PU fans, in my experience. In my trips to Ross-Ade, I've had full beer cans thrown at my head, and seen students telling a 10 year old to fuck off. It’s a fairly charged atmosphere. Even many Purdue students can’t be bothered to make it to most of the home games, yet turn into superfans when ND rolls into town. Your constant refrain that ND fans are fair-weather and idiots, while Purdue fans are somehow more loyal is laughable.

Of course you’re entitled to say whatever you want. I just think your post is indicative of Purdue fans in general. Many that I know seem more interested in Notre Dame losing than in Purdue winning. Your hatred towards ND fans seems a little misplaced, and pathetic.

Comparatively speaking, he seems to be a relatively nice troll, given that his only lines are "We were favored and actually beat you so Yeah!" and "Notre Dame football is bigger than Purdue football so Yeah!" I mean, we already knew both of those things.

If he happens to exhibit behavior that supports the stereotype that reinforces the reaction to Notre Dame fans that fans of most other schools have, well, that's a bonus, isn't it?

I'm sure he's probably saving the real zingers for Western Michigan's fans.

Guys! Ronnie is just pissed that his boss is a Purdue alum and actually expects (futilely I suspect) that he act professionally at work. The least we can do is let him be a grade A jackass here in cyberspace. I for one enjoy the spectacle

Rudy actually came to our school as well. He is a complete douchbag.

As far as Ronnie, he makes me laugh.
