Purdue's Incredible Depth at QB On Display

Rob Henry, Bobby Hank, White Lightning... whatever you call him, he's out of commission for the next two weeks.

Henry's finger is reportedly not broken, but his fingernail was torn off and his finger was cut. This is his index finger on his throwing hand.

There's a joke to be made here about Henry being unable to throw not really impacting the game plan....

However, the situation is now this:

Robert Marve -- out for season (ACL)
Caleb TerBush -- our for season (academics)
Rob Henry -- out for two weeks (finger)

So now the Boilers will start freshman Sean Robinson. Understand this: Robinson was slated to be the fourth QB this season, which really meant he would see zero action (like b-dowd in college) and would likely be redshirted. You really should not have heard of Sean Robinson if you're a casual Purdue fan. Yet, here he is!

And after him, you ask? Why, it's scout teamer Skylar Titus, a walk-on. Or possibly the recently recovered from injury Justin Siller.

So if anything happens to Robinson this week, your options are a walk-on or a guy who hasn't played QB in two years.

Despite this, the team is 4-3 and 2-1 in conference. Join us, as we venture into the great unknown.

Not that I don't trust you guys, but I haven't seen anything official that Henry's out at all.

"his fingernail was torn off"

Ouch!

Ben, I understand...I have a great source that says he's out for "several" games. At minimum, I think we won't see him this week. Hope nor anyone else has given an indicator that he'll be fine for this week.

*sigh* I was hoping you were just making things up.

I like the idea that T-Mill had about starting Bellomy against IU. I'm afraid we may actually be at that point by the end of the season.

I'd like to see him play running QB v. Illinois...but I haven't heard if he'll dress or not- I'd think he would almost have to, especially if Siller isn't available.

I think Purdue should change the mascot to the Fighting Stretcher Bearers.

I further what bdowd said the other day - if this team can keep a winning record, or at least end at .500, then Hope should get coach of the year award. The number of injuries on the offensive side of the ball is getting crazy, and Henry's injury has nothing to do with conditioning/training.

Run the triple option with Ross, Edison, and Carlos.

We've talked about the QB plenty, but who's going to play defense?

I say move Henry back to safety. Somebody on that side of the ball has to line up and be excited to hit someone. Or maybe they're excited, but the ball carrier runs past them in their brief fit of excitement that the play is coming their way. Either way, we looked as close to pathetic in all phases of the game. Opening the game with a kick out of bounds....40 yard line...personal foul facemask...15 yards...and then after getting the ball back, punt....force the opponent to punt and we turn the ball over. We were out of this game 4 minutes after it started and 3 possessions later.

Robinson will be a much better qb for us in long run.

This has been an absolute joke of a season. Why can't you idiots who write for this website see the writing on the wall, we would have still sucked this season if our team was healthy. Regardless of injuries, with a perfectly healthy team, would you think we would have a chance in the Big 10 this year? NO. Furthermore, Danny Hope and his staff look clueless with our abhorrent defense. When has Purdue ever had a secondary that has had a modicum of skill to being seen as respectable in the past 6 years? Do we even have a decent recuiting class for next year or are we going to get more BS hype like we did with 4 star recruit ATMB? We hired a coach that reflects our university itself, an archaic act. Fire the damn Tiller clone.

Andrew- I appreciate your passion, but I disagree witha number of things you say. First, and probably most-importantly, there's no way to tell what this team would be had it been healthy. I'm all for judging someone based on output and facts, but judging him based on something you imagine makes no sense.

I do think Hope and company have looked confused at times this season...won't argue there. And I'd agree that there are some on his staff that should be out at the end of the season. But, judging the Landholm defense against the Spack defense doesn't make a ton of sense- those two have little connection.

Do you really think Hope is a Tiller clone? I don't, here's why: Tiller won right away, Hope hasn't. Tiller was stoic and unemotional much of the time, Hope is always emotional. Tiller's teams almost never surprised us in the outcomes of games, Hope teams are pretty unpredictable. Tiller, especially at the end of his career, struggled-mightily against better teams. Hope has already beaten a top-10 team and a top-25 team on the road.

ATM hasn't looked like the player many thought he'd be thus far, that's true. But, OJ Ross, another 4-star recruit has made an immediate impact. The same can be said about Bruce Gaston, Ricardo Allen.
