The Other Gameday Crew Is Coming To Our Citaaaay

As you no doubt already know, the ESPN College Gameday junior varsity is coming to Purdue this Saturday. Many of us remember what happened when the varsity team (the football crew) graced West Lafayette. But let's not go there... it makes me shudder to think about it.

What we want is for those of you lucky enough to be present (none of the BS brain trust will be there) to share the experience with us. Send photos (or videos, if you're savvy enough) of the experience. Pics of the campout the night before... the ESPN trucks, equipment and presence...Digger Phelps ignoring fans...you asking Rece Davis if he is related to Hubert Davis...Erin Andrews being beautiful...fans being awesome...use your imagination. We want to get a feel for how things are going. And if we can feel anything related to Erin Andrews, well.... okay, I'll stop.

Seriously, though, please send anything in that you think is worthwhile and others not fortunate enough to be there would like to see to BoiledSports@gmail.com, or hit us on Twitter @BoiledSports. Assuming we have a nice array of submissions, we'll get a post up before the game that day sharing as much as we can.

Good luck. We're all counting on you.

EA: Mercy

Okay, certain members of the BS staff and extended family have had the good fortune of meeting the lovely Ms. Andrews in person before. And I'm sure members of our viewing audience have met her on various campuses and whatnot as well. And along the way, as we've been enraptured by her cuteness, there have been the occasional yo-yos who have suggested she's nothing special to look at.

Well, my mind has been blown after her appearance on Jimmy Kimmel. For those not connected to us via Facebook or Twitter, I thought I'd share these videos here.

Here's part 1 of Erin Andrews on Jimmy Kimmel Live:

And if that wasn't enough, she's got a hot sister, too.

Mercy. If you don't think she's hot after watching that, well, you're entitled to your opinion but... well, it'd be a wrong opinion.

That is all.

I'm Glad We've Stopped Objectifying Erin Andrews

Hey, remember when the Erin Andrews creepy video thing blew up and everyone wanted to blame bloggers because we're all pigs who objectify EA? Which basically just continues the "bloggers-are-the-root-of-evil" bullspit you constantly hear out of mainstream media and other self-righteous pricks?

Well, I, for one, am very glad to see that nobody is objectifying her anymore or using photos of her in a sexy look to sell publications or get cheap page views.

Shut up, everyone. Seriously.

This Week In Keyword Analysis

Amazingly, we'd been gliding along at about 700 page views a day during this dull time of year when suddenly yesterday we jumped to more than 2,000 page views. Maybe it had something to do with discussing Erin Andrews.

Anyway, I thought it'd be fun to also pass the time by sharing some of the most entertaining search terms to lead people to click on Boiled Sports, the worldwide leader in BS.

This week's best keywords:

- Erin Andrews "arm hair"

- Ashley harkleroad cleavage

Now, why someone would be searching for EA's arm hair, I do not know. Ashley's cleavage, well, that's more understandable.

The Whole EA Thing

I feel oddly compelled to comment on the current Erin Andrews debacle. If you haven't heard, she was videotaped through a hotel peephole, walking around her room, wearing nothing but her cell phone earbud (I like to think she was doing a radio appearance in the buff).

Well, a blonde was, anyway. And it was kind of grainy. So the best course of action, I would have thought, would be to simply deny it, laugh it off, etc. And then put tape over all future hotel peepholes. However, ESPN (and maybe EA herself) felt differently, and confirmed it was everyone's favorite sideline reporter in the altogether. The only reason I see for confirming this is because they want to go after not only the videographer but the hotel as well. Which they should, because I'm fairly certain peepholes aren't supposed to work that way.

What's more interesting to me is how multiple leading sports sites have been muzzled and, it appears, scared. Perhaps for the first time, I might add. I know AJ Daulerio at Deadspin has crossed lines before and it's always served to underscore how cutting edge Deadspin was, and how they were beholden to nobody. However, now AJ has been compelled (either with legal threats or his own conscience) to put up the most humble, serious, tail-between-the-legs post I've ever seen on Deadspin. And all he did was follow the story for us, as Deadspin is expected to do. What were sports blogs supposed to do when news broke that there was a potential video of EA naked? Pretend it hadn't happened? Of course it's an invasion of privacy. But unless you took the video, you're simply saying "Hey, look at this!" Sure, sure, that's wrong, too, because it further violates privacy, but we're getting a little further down the line of who's really doing anything wrong. Either we are all ready to be a part of this new media world where everyone Twitters and videos go viral immediately, or we're not ready and we need to go back to everything being edited and proofed and re-read and vetted, etc., over and over.

I think it's kind of sickening that someone would stand outside EA's hotel room and video her in the buff. However, many sports blogs/sites out there have commented on EA's hotness and she's virtually admitted in interviews that if she gets more access thanks to her looks, so be it. And we all loved her for that. And yet now we're all expected to get all moral and, as AJ at Deadspin does, say "please don't get out of control in the comments." If he's really going to curttail coverage and commentary of something like this, then what's left of Deadspin?

And what the hell did ESPN threaten him with, anyway?

Everyone should hate the Mets

If for no other reason than to show some pictures, I feel it's important to alert everyone that Erin Andrews was hit by a foul ball last night at the Mets game.

She's okay, and it didn't damage her most important assets. Her face and chin. Those are obviously what I'm talking about here. C'mon people, get your minds out of the gutter.

In other news. Holy Toledo! How many souls must she have sold? Seriously. I think she needs to be hired by Purdue. Think about what a great recruiting tool she could be. Come play for us and you get to see Erin Andrews every week. I think it could be a winner. Just sayin'.

I'll be spending the evening with Erin...

I'm about to go out on a date with my lady friend, Ms. Andrews...I'll let you guys discuss the game details.

Hope he can recruit

The following is excerpted from an ESPN.com article. I snipped the bits that apply to our Boilermakers.
When Purdue head coach Danny Hope called ESPN.com on Wednesday afternoon, he was navigating a road near Bay City, Fla. An hour earlier, Wisconsin defensive line coach Charlie Partridge phoned in from the Fort Lauderdale area.

The Big Ten recruiting range is expanding far beyond the Midwest, and coaches are spending much of their time in the fertile states of the south and southeast.

Hope, who enters his first season at Purdue, was born in Gainesville, attended high school in Miami and had his first coaching job at Manatee High School in Bradenton, Fla. He recruited the area extensively as an assistant at Louisville and head coach at Eastern Kentucky, and the trend certainly has continued at Purdue. No Big Ten program has experienced a more dramatic southerly recruiting shift. Of the Boilermakers' 15 verbal commitments and two early enrollees, 12 come from Florida, two from Georgia, one from Texas and none from Indiana.

"If you're going to notice one school that has put more of an emphasis, it's Rodriguez's staff," Partridge said. "You certainly see those guys down here a lot more than I used to see Michigan. Ohio State has always come down here and had success, and Minnesota has gotten their kids. And you look at Purdue. Purdue is certainly putting their time in.

"That makes sense."

Hope isn't surprised that his first recruiting haul at Purdue will be so heavily rooted in his home state. Though his relationships in Florida certainly played a role, Hope's biggest draw to the state is the type of player he can recruit there.

Big Ten fans have heard the speed argument ad nauseum, especially during the league's recent bowl-game disasters. But there's some credence to it, a fact not lost on Hope or his colleagues.

"We were really looking to add some speed at the skill positions," Hope said. "That's where we had the most seniors on our football team that are graduating. We had to find some guys who could come in and compete early in their careers. So speed was a factor.

"And when we got done with the evaluation process, there were more of them down here that we had a chance to get, so we've focused a lot of effort down here. We've had just about all of our coaches here some."

Purdue's 2009 class features two quarterbacks, four wide receivers, a running back and several other "athletes" who could handle the ball in college.

As speed seemingly becomes the dominant factor in college football, Big Ten coaches look at the glut of talent in the south and head for warmer climates.

"That doesn't take away from the quality in the Midwest, but by and large, they're all going to look down south and take a peek and figure out where is their time best spent."

Hope technically was an assistant coach (offensive line) for Purdue last year -- head coaches are no longer allowed to recruit off campus during the spring evaluation period -- so he made sure to visit the southeast.

Let's see how it goes at the end of the day. That said, the heart of a player is worth more than the stars of their ranking. On paper and film you can look like a world beater in high school and after 4 years in college you can be relegated to a bench warmer.

Also, you're welcome for the gratuitous use of Erin Andrews.

Ugly Girls on TV

I don't know much about her, but I just watched a clip over at Scout.com with Kinga Phillips. Kinga might be in my top-3 sports girls now, and I've only seen literally one minute of her work. If you don't know her, you probably will soon.

Take notice Ms. Andrews and Mrs. Stark...Kinga's nipping at your heels.

Is Kinga the New Sports Queen?

Best Behavior Boobies

On a whim a week or two ago, I reached out to Purdue's athletic department and asked them if they'd be willing to let us interview in one way or another members of the football program. Coaches, players, towel boys, interns, scoreboard operators... it didn't matter. I just said we're a Purdue-centric sports site and we'd love to get a few words with anyone they'd be willing to connect us with.

The response I got from assistant AD Tom Schott was "Yes, I am aware of your site."

Gulp.

Tom went on to say he would look into how they could work with us and that he wanted to check the site out again.

Heh.

Well, Tom, we'll do our best to be on good behavior. Let me just point out that SBF never features nudity and we do our best to keep our potty mouths clean here. So, readers of BS, tuck in your shirts, use your napkins and don't belch at the table.

And let's look at sideboobs.

First up this week is Ms. Hayden Panettiere, she of the ridiciulous show Heros. In this outfit, I suppose she's my hero, though. (Kudos to BDD of KSK for directing everyone to these pics.)

Busted Coverage noticed that Sam Keller -- the cocky, arrogant, and not-that-talented QB of the disfunctional Callahan-led Nebraska Cornhuskers, and previously the arrogant QB for the Arizona State team that beat the Boilers in one of the 43 Sun Bowls we played in -- has a really hot girlfriend. Well, of course he does... he's a cocky, obnoxious douchebag who plays quarterback. They always get hot chicks.

Here's one I found all on my own... it's one I don't see bandied about among the many, many pictures of Erin Andrews out there. Basically, if you think she looks good now, well, holy moly... I can only assume this is from her college days. And...yowsa. The downturned pouty mouth adds something, don't you think?

Have a good weekend, go outside instead of watching the NFL Draft and, as always, Boiler Up.

Sideboob Friday is a production of Boiled Sports and runs on Fridays in this space. If you're interested in sharing photos or suggestions, or if you work for Purdue's athletic department and want to give us a report cards, you can do any of this at BoiledSports@gmail.com.

Pictures of Sadness

Here are a few pictures that make me laugh...even though the event made me cry and curse.

Erin Andrews Doesn't Appear To Like Sweaty Manhandling

Well, that sucks. Because those are two words I usually associate with Ms. Andrews in my fantasies. I mean, if I were to have fantasies about her. You know what I'm saying.

Anyway, at halftime of the severely overhyped Memphis-Tennessee game on Saturday night, Erin caught up with Bruce Pearl and he clearly made her a tad uncomfortable. This isn't Namath-Kolber territory but it's kind of funny all the same.

Not that I can really blame Bruce. We've all made up a reason to rub against a hot girl at one time or another in our lives.

In high school, describing what somebody else did... in the office, demonstrating what would be sexual harrassment if you did it "for real"... on a basketball court during a halftime interview on ESPN in front of millions of viewers... etc.

(Erin Andrews Sighting) Holy Crap! What a beautiful sight!!!

View from our seats (directly across from the greatest student section in America)

The scene was incredible...the Paint Crew was just off the hinges...and their energy even got the old people to yell, quite a bit actually, especially during the many shot clock violations.

I have to tell you, I've watched this year in bars, restaurants, and at home on HD...and it was even more impressive in person. I honestly could not believe how great the view from section 18, row 15 was...and I'm not even talking about the game. Erin Andrews was set up right in front of us...so we had tremendous seats by any account. Below are a few pictures that we took with Boilerdowd's younger brother's phone. You really can't understand how good looking Ms. Andrews is until you've seen her up close. Check it out:

That's not me, for those of you who don't know me...that's my brother...the other one is the much-nicer-than-I-thought-she'd-be-in-person Erin Andrews

Purdue-MSU: Halftime Report

Well, our Boilers -- spurred on by boilerdowd's presence in the crowd -- have leapt to a 34-18 halftime lead over the 8th-ranked Spartans.

Can any of us say we expected this? I don't think we can. I think every reasonable Purdue fan (yes, there ARE reasonable Purdue fans) expected the Baby Boilers to lay an egg at some point. And to be in true Purdue fashion, doing it in a nationally-televised home game might be the expected time for that to occur.

But it's not happening so far. The Boilers are playing at a frenetic pace and it's looking more and more like one of those games where you make your own breaks. The Boilers seem to be getting some good calls and catching some breaks, such as the airball that Robbie Hummel saved before getting it back and draining a three from the corner. Or the multiple charges that Sparty's been called for. Or how about the dozen turnovers committed by MSU? Good teams make their own luck and the Boilers appear to be doing that.

Another half of basketball remains and we all know a lot can happen in twenty minutes of ball. But for now, it appears that the guys are continuing to listen to Coach Painter and look as focused as they've looked all season. Brent Musburger has even discovered Purdue! It only took twenty-five games! Welcome, Brent.

Mackey looks to be a complete nuthouse right now and I wish I was there. Expect a full report from our man who is in the nuthouse right now.

Now That's A Sports Weekend

It was such a tasty sports weekend, wasn't it Erin Andrews?

I don't even know where to begin with this smattering. (But it won't be with Purdue.)

The ALCS is looking to be a good series. The Indians put up 7 runs in the 11th inning to win Game 2 and that has to have Boston fans thinking now. Schilling was terrible, the Indians got very little from Fausto Carmona and still won. Uh-oh, Boston. Maybe this is punishment for disrespecting the Anthem.

The Rockies have are now 20-1 in their last 21 games and they're up 3-0 on the D-Backs. That's kind of ridiculous and awesome at the same time.

Brett Favre became the all-time leader in career interceptions just two weeks after becoming the all-time leader in TD passes. That's kind of amusing. I don't think they stopped the game to present him with a statue of him chasing a DB returning a pick, though. (But it would have been funny if they had.) ESPN is still finding new ways to slobber Brett's knob -- right now they have a "list of Favre's best games played right after his birthday." Seriously? Give it a rest.

The Patiots absolutely pasted the Cowboys (in Dallas, no less) yesterday. I don't think I've ever been happier about a Boston sports team winning. The Cowgirls are not nearly as good as their 5-0 record suggested and the Patriots completely de-pantsed them and exposed it for all to see. Tom Brady is having a superhuman season right now, and the Patriots haven't scored less than 34 points in any game this season.

George Steinbrenner is apparently "ceding" control of his Yankees to his sons. Okay, then. Does anyone still think George is running the show? He doesn't appear in public anymore, he's never at Yankee Stadium... it's kind of silly at this point.

Vinny Testaverde is still alive. Who knew? The Jets probably should have re-signed him.

The BCS Standings are out (and, really, doesn't it make sense for all polls to start around this time?) and Ohio State, amazingly, is #1 despite being in what they were even admitting was a rebuilding year. Get ready for more insufferable tOSU fans and shirts that say, "We don't rebuild -- we reload!" But it's pretty damn amazing to look at the BCS as well as the other, more traditional polls. South Florida is #2 in the country?? They've only existed as a D1 program for like a decade.

Once again, our friends over at Hawaii almost blew their chance at a perfect season, narrowly beating San Jose State in OT. And yet they find themselves at 18 in the BCS and 16 in the AP. Completely ridiculous and unjustified. I know this is the voters humoring Hawaii/WAC supporters because it is indeed hard to say a D1 program that is 7-0 shouldn't be ranked. But they're really not even as good as their ranking suggests. Just wait and see if they get into a major bowl against a big-time program. It might get embarrassing for them. Like, I'm talking 6 or 8 picks for pass-happy, overrated sexual assaulter -- err, I mean, quarterback -- Colt Brennan. Hell, he threw four picks against San Jose State! He threw for a ridonkulous 545 but also tossed the ball 75 times. Hawaii rushed for... 56 yards. Total. That's kind of... imbalanced.

Amazingly, I'm going to talk about the WAC twice in this post -- I actually watched the OTs last night in the Boise State-Nevada game. (Why college football is being played on Sundays now, I do not understand.) BSU won the game, 69-67 because Nevada failed to get the two-point conversion in the fourth OT session. I'll admit, I wanted to see them hit 70 points. But still, can you imagine your school putting up 67 points... and losing? One thing I also have to say about this game is that the combo of WAC offenses, weak defenses and tired players led to the offenses in the OTs being completely unstoppable. Just look at the OT scoring summaries... the first few were one or two play "drives" of 25 yards and, boom, there was your TD. What irritated me, though, was Bill Curry, who was supposed to be providing color analysis for the game, just wanted the game to be called a tie and wouldn't let it go. At about the third overtime, he began pointing out that these "kids" were "tired" and that "somebody could get hurt." Jeez, Bill, are you a cub scout den mother or something? It's (supposedly) big time college football. Don't give me this "the kids are tired" bullsh-t. They want to win as much as anyone. And ties were eliminated a while ago, Bill. Deal with it, or shuffle off to retirement. At one point, a Nevada defender twisted a finger or wrist or something on an awkward tackle and Curry acted like this proved his point. Like guys couldn't get hurt earlier in the game. Just intolerable to listen to. Shut up and call the game.

Hey, is anybody else tired of seeing Dane Cook pretend to be such a huge baseball fan and continually enunciating to us that "There's only one October"? Well, Saturday Night Live finally decided to have some fun with it and what bothers me about this sketch is that practically nobody laughs... maybe they don't get it because they haven't seen the commericals, or maybe they all just really love Dane Cook. Still, pretty funny and it's about time.

Last week, during the first couple games of the MLB postseason, you may have seen a few ads for Frank TV. Or like a few thousand. After about the 500th cutaway to a Frank TV ad, one of our readers and friend (when he doesn't do his disappearing act) sent me a text message that simply said, "Frank TV looks good." Sometimes it's the simple humor that makes me laugh most.

I'm sure there was more -- I know there was -- but that's all the time we have now, folks.

Happy Birthday, Hayden!

Hayden Panettiere turned 18 on August 21...in celebration of her big day, I thought I'd post my top five ladies of TV (as of this minute).

(In no particular order)

Hayden Panettiere (She's got a nearly-flawless face...and her upside [to use sports terminology] is huge. Hopefully, she doesn't even know who Paris Hilton is.)

Elisabeth Hasslebeck (She's a great-looking Mom, a conservative and I used to work with her...seriously.)

Erin Andrews (She might be the only person on ESPN worth watching...but if that's all the network had, it'd still be OK.)

Kari Byron (Great looking and seems pretty smart...she's a nerd's dream.)

Kristen Bell (Don't know much about her...but she's got a purty mouf.)
