Evil Genius?

I'll admit I'm not a big fan of Jim Delany...if you've been coming to the site for a while, you know that. But, I'll also admit when he does something right.

The creation of the BTN was brilliant...and he deserves credit for it. But, Delany has pissed me off time and time again with his consistent poo poo-ing of the idea of a playoff in football. He said it was tradition and academics that keeps a football playoff from becoming a reality...We all know those reasons weren't the story; it was about money. I don't fault Delany for steering the conference in a manner that makes it money, I talked about that earlier today. I don't like B.S...no, of course I'm not talking about the greatest website in all of the land.

But, some think that Delany is not only brilliant, but he's the best poker player ever and has a diabolical streak that would make Dr. Evil jealous.
I doubt Delany is as shrewd as Warren Buffett, as brilliant as Nikola Tesla or plays cards like "Jesus" Ferguson...but, if what Wetzel and others are saying is true, he's definitely one of the gods of the college sports world.

I don't think he's a puppet master or evil genius at all...I'm kind of being tongue in cheek with all of this. Regardless of the intentionality of his actions, he's shaken things up.

You know, I guess I just don't care about a college football playoff because I don't see many National Titles in Purdue's future. And besides, this whole "one and done" NCAA Football Playoff... it doesn't prove anything except that one great team happened to beat another great team on a given day. A week later the losing team might smack down the winner by 3 touchdowns. The Bowls are fun, the regular season is what really matters and I could care less if LSU, FL, TX, OK or USC wins a "National Title".

But you are right about the BTN being a brilliant idea and I'm all for expansion... I hope the Big Ten goes to 16 teams. It's not like the schools we are inviting in "suck" - they are great institutions and expansion would be a great big adventure and a chance to experience some new rivalries and opponents. Some of the Big Ten schools we've played forever... Yawn. Iowa, MN, NU... Blah! Bring on Nebraska or Texas or Rutgers. Change can be fun.

I think we should just drop Indiana and then change the name of the State to Purdue.

Morgan needs to get on this ASAP

ChicagoBoiler, isn't that true of any sport's playoff? Winning a championship is about peaking at the right time of the season/playoffs. I am not a Colts fan by any stretch of the imagination, but I would suspect they would beat the Saints 7or8 times out of 10. But it doesn't change the fact that they lost the one that counted.

Exactly, PWS...you have to really earn a tournament championship.

If I was only interested in the NCAA basketball tournament when Purdue was a contender, I wouldn't have watched it but about 7 times in the last 30 years...but that's not the case.

Great idea Klaus, At least that way, people outside the B10 would know where the hell Purdue is.

Its a little dissapointing that Nebraska, who has some of the most respectable football fans in the nation will be subjected to fans like the Boilermakers and the Illini. Hopefully, that doesn't that tradition
