Hats off to CBS!

College basketball fans have been begging and pleading for years to be able to see every game, on a real TV without a subscription fee. CBS has finally done it, and for me, it makes this great weekend all the better.

If you have an iphone, check out their app...it's pretty amazing- you can even use it as a guide for where to turn to to see each game. If you're anything like me, it's nearly-impossible to remember the channel numbers as the cable providers have made it as confusing as possible.

Now that we're through the pseudo-first round, we can get down to the real match-ups. Enjoy the day!

(By the way, we don't have any tie-in, affiliation or sponsor relationship with CBS...I just like to give props to people doing things well in college sports- there just aren't a ton of examples I can think of in which I'm just really happy for the way a media outlet handles an event. But this one's right on. That's probably why it will change next year.)

But they still employ Seth Davis.

Can you give more details on the App? CBS, March Madness, etc?

This made me happy too, since last year's MMOD app cost a few bucks. But it also made me upset, because they didn't bother to just update the one I had already bought - they made it unable to run anymore.

Big fat MMOD app fail so far though.. it thinks our local CBS station is channel 74 for Dish Network. I knew it was 18, but I bit.. figured I'd at least see what it was. The result? Well, 74 doesn't exist, so it went to channel 72, some network that I've never heard of with a 3-letter abbreviation "NEW". What was on? Some infomercial titled "Best Bra Ever!"

Fail, CBS. Fail. Back to channel 18... with Drew Carey and "The Price is Right" until they put real March Thursday programming on.

Angela - search in the app store for march madness, that should be sufficient.

Credit belongs to the NCAA not CBS. If I remember correct, CBS was pretty upset when the NCAA decided to throw Turner Broadcasting into the mix. If you want to thank anyone it should be the NCAA.

ditto on the iPhone / iPad app. You can setup notifications for close and/or upset games. Watched the last 3-4 minutes of all the crazy afternoon games (BUTLER FTW!) live on my iPad at work. Works really well on wifi and then tried it on the cell networks and it works pretty darn good. Even has a 30 second rewind button on it. Very very very good app. And you can't beat the price...

Let's not hand out too much credit just yet. If you were watching the end of the Thursday games, around 12:05 AM Eastern time, you saw a very interesting three- or four-minute stretch on one of the channels ... it looked like a cat snuck into the production room and was walking in circles on the control panel, switching back and forth among various commercials, shots of completed games, and post-game interviews, all at different points.

Highly entertaining, but perhaps indicative that CBS and Turner still have some work to do ...
