You Stay Classy, Boston

Via With Leather comes this lovely video of Boston fans doing what they do best... I guess.

Yes, yes, I'm sure you're not all like that. But here's the thing: so many of you are like that. Obnoxious and semi-retarded, that is. What other explanation is there for destroying public and private property because your NBA team won a title? And I don't want to hear any bullsh-t about any of my teams because when the Giants won the Super Bowl, there weren't riots in NYC or NJ. Can you imagine if it had been the big bad NY team who was 18-0 and was upset by a Wild Card Pats team? Holy hell. They seriously would have torched all of Boston. Makes perfect sense, too. Destroy the city you support. Wait, what? Too many words.

And while I'm feeling salty, let's talk about Kevin Garnett and his jackassian performance for Michelle Tafoya last night. Tell you what, Kevin, why don't you grow the f-ck up and get control of yourself and conduct an interview like an adult? Oooh, he's so emotional! Ooh, he cares so much! Give me a break. How come every other athlete can handle an interview afterwards? That was just annoying and disrespectful. How do people like this clown?

Two quotes from that interview from Garnett stand out in particular for me... possibly because they're the only semi-coherent things he said.

1) "Anything can happen." -- Really? Like, you mean, Kevin Garnett can not only get out of the first round, but even win a title? Yeah, I guess so. Anything can happen. As long as it's not in Minnesota. Right, Kevin?

2) "Whatchu gonna say now?" -- Huh? Don't even tell me this was a "nobody believed in us" bullsh-t line. The Celts won 66 games this year. If you clowns had not won a title, you would have been colossal failures. So let's not act like you overcame so much. You overcame nothing. You overcame the Hawks, barely, and then the Cavs, barely. And then, yeah, you beat the Pistons and Lakers, all while losing more games than a champ has ever lost I believe. So what am I gonna say now? I'm gonna say, good for you guys. I'm glad it wasn't Kobe who won. But, seriously, Boston fans, does this feel that good? 40% of your starting lineup -- and 67% of your big-time players -- were brought in just this season after long, distinguished careers elsewhere. Are they really Celtics? Doesn't this feel a little hollow? No?

I mean, what if the Chicago Bears traded for Peyton Manning, Terrel Owens, LaDanian Tomlinson and a few other stars and then won the Super Bowl? Would that feel like a Bears title? Or a title that a bunch of guys won? I don't know, I'm seriously kind of asking.

That's all I got.

Honestly, the first move I always made in the EA NBA games as Boston was trade for KG to provide the low post presence, so I was ecstatic when they made the deal for real. I'm just happy that the only Boston team I like actually won.

Well I agreed with most of what you said(and you're a Purdue alum too) for the most part except I wanted the Lakers to win. And yes I rather see Kobe and the Lakers win the title because I'm sure they would've handled the victory a lot better.

J- I hate to bring this up, but, THERE ARE IDIOTS WHO ROOT FOR EVERY TEAM. Case in point- Purdue students started fires and rioted...after the fricking women won the national championship. I had already graduated...and was surprised because I didn't even know that women's basketball was anything more than a club sport.

Garnett dropped about 100 points in my cool guy scale last night. That little sophomoric rant was one of the most ridiculous things that have ever been muttered in the English language. I believe he was referencing the Adidas "Impossible is Nothing" tagline as well...but botched it. Yeah- it was so impossible to believe a team comprised of three perennial All-Stars/future HOFers (that's 60% of the team) won the championship...that's what they're supposed to do. Just like the Yankees back in '04...Burn!

KG saved some of it with the "Michelle, you look good girl" line. He gets so intense I imagined he would burst into gibberish when he finally won a championship not unlike what actually happened.

Dowd - not only did Purdue students start fires after the women won, the started fires and rioted the year the women lost. Now THAT'S a fan!

My sister went through some of the rioting after the BoSox won it a few years ago. She called me as she was trying to get home and asked me to stay on the line in case something happened to her. Not something an older brother, and Cardinals fan, needs to hear.

You were lucky to have been at Purdue that extra year in Pharm...you got to see all of the cool stuff.

We got next!

I had never heard KG talk before that interview, and I lost some respect for him. I thought for sure that at some point he would regain sanity. Silly me.

J,

I really don't get the the anger, especially about the fact that 40% of the Celts starters came via the trade. First, if you are a fan of a team, you support that team. While it is more satisfying as a fan to see players who have spend their entire careers in a city, that is not the reality of professional sports today. Guys move via free agency and trade, and sometimes they even demand a trade. Big deal. It is a job to them, why shouldn't they move for a chance to be in a better situation whether it be financially or competitively? Would you advise a friend of yours to stay at his current job when their is a better situation in another city/state?

Second, do all those Yankees championships of the late 90's, and heck back to Babe Ruth, feel a little hollow. After all, Chuck Knoblauch, Scott Brosius, Tino Martinez, Darryl Strawberry, David Cone, David Wells, Roger Clemens, John Wettland, Mike Stanton, and Paul O'Neill were all career Yankees so that was different. No, I think some of those, or all, may have been acquired by trade or free agency, but I suppose baseball is different, right. So ask yourself if those Yankee titles feel like Yankee titles, or just a bunch of guys who won a title. Or is it different when you put on the pinstripes?

Heck, if it weren't for a trade, and the fact that he is a whiny bitch who wouldn't play for the Charger, the Giants wouldn't have had their Super Bowl MVP.

So fine, jump on Garnett for being a jackass, jump on the, and I'm guessing even this number is too big, .1% of fans(of any team) who riot and act like hooligans, but don't bitch about a team acquiring some of their best players because of trades or free agency because that is the state of the game in all sports.
